Left Dermot Weld for 16,000 gns in November 2017, and makes his handicap debut for new connections at a lowly level. Not shown much ability so far (despite being gelded).
Now a 14-race maiden, but appears to have improved slightly for the fitting of cheek-pieces. Beaten just under 3L by course specialist Symbolic Star at Newcastle (1m) in early January.
Finished down the field on handicap debut at Newcastle (7f) in September 2017. Time is still on his side after making just four career starts, so interesting to see what impact the first time tongue-tie has upon his performance.
Won off this mark at Newcastle in October 2017 (6f), but is a nine race maiden on turf and was always in the rear when well beaten on his seasonal reappearance at the opening Thirsk fixture recently (6f).
Ended her previous campaign in a consistent run of form with regular placed efforts following her 6f August Catterick success (soft). Tailed off on recent seasonal reappearance (led), and has a tough wide draw to overcome today.
Never won beyond 6f, but might just get away with this trip at a sharp track such as Thirsk; assuming the ground isn't overly testing. Not badly handicapped from his current mark.
An infrequent winner who hasn't tasted success since his days with previous trainer Mick Channon (5f+ at Bath in April 2016). Slipping quickly down the weights, but far from certain that 7f is his ideal trip.
Won a couple of races on the bounce in July 2017 (both 7f), and gradually falling back to just about his last winning mark. Likely stronger for a couple of recent AW spins.
A winner off a 3lb lower mark at Wolverhampton (7f) in February, and has also won on turf in the not too distant past; July 2017. Not so sharp more recently, hence the application of first time cheek-pieces.
Not a regular winner (2-34), but saves his better efforts for sharp tracks, and goes particularly well at Catterick (6f to 7f). Remains competitive from his current mark after a fair AW campaign. Wide draw.
A 37-race maiden, but this rather small mare doesn't lack for heart and has run some respectable races on the AW at Newcastle, just needing that slice of luck. That said; not so strong lately, so we'll give her the swerve.
An 11-race maiden who has only raced beyond 6f on one previous occasion (well beaten). Beaten just a neck by Mr Strutter on her sole previous visit to Thirsk in April 2017 (6f), and 5lb lower today.
Poor form on all three starts so far in AW maidens/novice stakes. Switches to turf for the first time on handicap debut from a plating mark.
Forecasts
Motahassen (9/4), Carlovian (5/1), Harbour Patrol (7/1), Willsy (9/1), Majestic Stone (10/1), Supreme Power (14/1), Jessie Allan (14/1), Deben (16/1), Picks Pinta (18/1), Mrs Angel (20/1), Melaniemillie (20/1), Excellent Story (20/1), Kroy (33/1)
Unlike in Division 1 35 minutes earlier, there isn't an obvious standout contender, so we can do some outside of the box thinking. Both Majestic Stone and Picks Pinta have stamina to prove over this 7f trip, but could be on the premises in a very winnable race if staying. Motahassen tops the weights for his UK/handicap debut, but hadn't shown much promise for previous trainer Dermot Weld, whilst the sharp track regular Deben might've entered the equation with a better draw. However, we'll take a plunge into the unknown with the first time tongue-tied EXCELLENT STORY. He's not shown anything yet, but time is still on his side and he's well drawn in stall two.
- Excellent Story
- Majestic Stone
- Picks Pinta
