A winner on this card in 2017 (2m good) on his first start for Rebecca Menzies, and back to his 'winning mark' when bossing a small field 2m4f contest in a bog at Newcastle latest. Raised 4lb.

Veteran whose last chasing success came just over 12 months ago off this mark at Kelso (2m1f soft); beating Vengeur De Guye by 3L (Chidswell third). Raced mainly over 3m since, so this drop back in trip should suit.

Doesn't ever do much racing during the winter months, which strongly implies that he wants decent underfoot conditions. Races from a mark which is 3lb above his last winning perch (July 2017) and likely to strip fitter for this race.

Has a decent record fresh, and returned from wind surgery with a decisive 8L success at Newbury last month (2m4f soft). Now 7lb higher, but had the beating of Pain Au Chocolat there (won since), so holds every chance with conditions to suit.

Verdict

A trappy affair which features a couple of last time out winners. Pain Au Chocolat bossed his rivals when winning in a bog at Newcastle (2m4f) with rider Tony Kelly reporting afterwards that he tends to appreciate carrying a big weight against lesser rivals as opposed to being upped in class. Both Morning Royalty and Chidswell are handicapped to score, but not regular winners. Therefore, the spotlight falls upon the Alan Jones trained TIQUER to follow up his recent Newbury success from a 7lb higher mark. Wind surgery has apparently helped this veteran chaser, and he has plenty in his favour (namely trip and ground) today.
  1. Tiquer
  2. Morning Royalty
  3. Pain Au Chocolat
