Three times a C&D winner from four visits he scored over hurdles (made all) in his most recent start at Catterick taking a weak selling handicap. Now returns over fences off a much higher mark than his hurdles one and not sure in to be same form.

Smooth travelling sort who in the past has produced less than expected off the bridle (appears to find more now) and did so when winning in November. Looked in need of the run off a break last time (ran well) and of interest here on the back of that.

Twice a course winner here she got her chasing career up and running with a win over further (2m3f) on this course. Looked a little out of practice last time back from a break (beaten 34L) but should have come on for that run.

Ended a losing run of around two years when scoring over 2m5f here in October taking advantage of a much-reduced mark. Hasn't been in anything like the same form since and appears to be struggling for form.

Fair handicap chaser who is often seen at his best over this C&D although his last two runs in this company have seen him easily beaten. Best at around this trip it may well be that this grade/mark is just too much of a test for him.

Has won a couple of novices' handicap chases since the turn of the year from the front on both occasions the second over C&D. Failed off this mark last time when unable to gain an uncontested lead; better judged on his earlier efforts.

Verdict

Plenty of winning C&D form here with four of the combatants earning that accolade but it may the one horse in the field that hasn’t won here that comes out on top in CHAIN OF BEACONS. He ran well after a break last time and this strong travelling type now appears to finish off his races a lot better. Discoverie won this race in 2016 but that was off an 18lb lower mark and his chase mark is a tough one and the claims of course specialist Frankie Ballou are much preferred although he will need to improve again. Oak Vintage isn’t ruled out especially if he gets a soft lead with Midnight Walk sure to shape better with a recent run now under her belt.
  1. Chain Of Beacons
  2. Frankie Ballou
  3. Oak Vintage
