Raised 9lb for an emphatic February Musselburgh success (3m), but the runner up Dun Faw Good has scored since, so that's an anticipated rise. Stays well, but always likely to be vulnerable to a finisher given his prominent style of racing.
Multiple point-to-point winner, but has limited experience of racing under rules. Has shown some minor promise in novice events and surely better suited by going handicapping; albeit not great on handicap bow at Haydock last month.
Infrequent winner, but makes the journey over from Ireland on the back of a second placed finish at Limerick in March (3m heavy); beaten 6½L by Cappacurry Zak. Ground conditions will hold few fears.
Finished second to Achill Road Boy over C&D in late March, and respected on that effort. However, he was put firmly in his pace by Mahler Lad at Musselburgh in February (third), so tough to envisage a reversal despite the better terms.
Enjoyed a fruitful season, developing into a Musselburgh regular lately. Perhaps unfortunate not to have landed a four-timer (travelling well when falling in January), but beaten off this revised mark latest and now has an extra 2f to travel.
Recorded his first success since December 2016 when gamely accounting for Misfits (by 3¾L) over C&D last month. Up 7lb, and will encounter slightly softer conditions today, but that was much more like it, so every chance if in a similar fettle.
Best effort was his only win to date, a 2m7½f (good to soft) handicap chase at Lingfield in 2016, when trained by Emma Lavelle. Shown little for this trainer over marathon trips, but falling like a stone down the weights.
Forecasts
Achill Road Boy (5/2), Mahler Lad (9/2), Misfits (9/2), Solid Strike (6/1), Milanesque (13/2), Onderun (7/1), Attention Please (8/1)
Mahler Lad has had a couple of months off since scoring decisively at Musselburgh in February (was declared to run at Sedgefield last month). Although that victory has been well advertised since and he stays this longer trip, it'll be much tougher to make all at this stiff track under a welter burden of 12 stone. March C&D scorer Achill Road Boy rates as an obvious threat, and should once more have the edge over Misfits, but we'll chance the Irish raider MILANESQUE. He lines up on the back of a decent effort at Limerick, and should relish the testing underfoot conditions.
- Milanesque
- Achill Road Boy
- Mahler Lad
