Smarkets Chase (Novices' Limited Handicap)

Off time: 16:10 | Winning time: 6m 9.30s

Marquis Of Carabas¹⁵⁹

Age: 8| Weight: 11-3| J: Aidan Coleman| T: David Dennis| OR: 128

9/2

Acts on testing ground, though both his wins have been on good. Scored from 9lb lower last summer but his form since then has suggested that the handicapper currently has his measure. Goes well when fresh, though yet to win after a break.

Beggar's Wishes^b,t³³

Age: 7| Weight: 11-2| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR: 127

15/8

Has improved on his hurdles form since going chasing, winning at Sedgefield (2m½f, good) and also running well at Leicester (2m4f, heavy) last time. Up 4lb for that but there may still be more to come and he is short-listed.

Form: 17-1542

Remind Me Later¹³⁷

Age: 9| Weight: 10-12| J: Joshua Moore| T: G & J Moore| OR: 123

4/1

Came good over fences at the seventh attempt when a 2½L winner at Worcester (2m7f, good) in October. A 6lb rise to this mark saw him beaten over 10L at Ascot on his only start since. Can go well fresh but soft ground is a concern.

Form: 3-22513

Minella Scamp^t¹⁴

Age: 9| Weight: 10-5| J: P J Brennan| T: F O'Brien| OR: 116

7/4

Finished tired over 3m last time and this drop back to slightly shorter looks to be in his favour. A 2lb drop will also help. Acts on soft ground but still needs some improvement to win from this mark.

Form: 272-224

Forecasts

Minella Scamp (7/4), Beggar's Wishes (15/8), Monbeg Charmer (7/2), Remind Me Later (4/1), Marquis Of Carabas (9/2)

BEGGAR'S WISHES has improved since going chasing and despite a 4lb rise for being beaten at Leicester last time he looks to be going the right way and is taken to complete a second chase win. Marquis Of Carabas and Minella Scamp both have positives to their names but at the same time need to raise the bar, while Remind Me Later goes well after a break, though in his case the ground is a concern.
