Has gradually learnt his trade over fences and scored at Wincanton in February. Beaten off this mark since but yard are going well and he handles bad ground.

Major Hindrance31

C&D winner in January and runner-up on both starts since. Not weighted out of this and this stiff track in testing conditions clearly suits.

Casper Kingb111

Better than this at his best but pulled up on his last two starts and wind surgery has not made any appreciable difference. Blinkers and the champion jockey are employed this time.

The deeper the ground the better over hurdles and he seems to like Chepstow. On a good mark compared to his hurdling form, but he was let down by his jumping last time.

The Bay Birch10
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Stan Sheppard(3)| T: M Sheppard| OR:  115
3/1
Impressive in taking two of her last three and beaten by a well-handicapped rival in the other. Up in class and 15lb higher than last time, but revels in these conditions and undaunted by tracks as stiff as this.
6
Horse silk
Duhallow Lad27
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-9| J: T J O'Brien| T: A E Jones| OR:  112
5/2
Handicapper has taken a sensible view of his last win when the race fell apart leaving him 50L clear of the only other finisher. Had put up a good performance over hurdles at Newbury previously and he looks progressive.

Forecasts

Duhallow Lad (5/2), The Bay Birch (3/1), Major Hindrance (3/1), Silverhow (11/2), The Gipper (10/1), Casper King (11/1)

Verdict

THE BAY BIRCH has registered wide margin victories at Towcester this term and her mark is now 21lb higher than when gaining the first of them. This is a stiffer task but she relishes these conditions and the weight she receives may prove telling. Duhallow Lad will be dangerous from the foot of the weights and Silverhow may fare better now meeting rivals who have been heavily penalised by the handicapper. Major Hindrance handles this track and won't mind the ground, but The Gipper and Casper King have points to prove having disappointed last time.
  1. The Bay Birch
  2. Duhallow Lad
  3. Silverhow
