Twice a winner as a juvenile for this trainer (5f), but has raced unsuccessfully for others since. Runner up in the Ayr Bronze Cup (6f) for Michael Dods in September 2016, but raced just once last season for Antony Brittain. AW debut.
The pursuit for the accolade of the 2017/18 AW Championships winning most horse concludes today and this seven-time season winner (often in sellers and claimers) recommences battle following a solid enough effort at Lingfield (5f) on Saturday.
Strong performer at Chelmsford, but also a C&D winner. Found wanting in stronger races lately; albeit not necessarily having the run of the race. On a competitive mark and granted a strong pace will be most likely finishing off his race strongly.
One of four runners saddled by this trainer. Enjoys racing prominently and saw off stablemate Monsieur Joe to score by 1½L at Naas in September (5f soft). More effective overall on turf than synthetics. Wears first time cheek-pieces.
A top class sprinter on his day, winning the Group 1 Abbaye (5f good) at Longchamp in October 2014. On the downgrade, but makes just his second start for this trainer (saddles four runners). Limited AW experience (0/2).
Races from a mark which is 3lb higher than when winning over C&D in October; beat Duke Cosimo by ¾L. Not seen masses of action since and whilst requiring a career best effort to score, he'd be a most popular local winner.
A solid and consistent turf sprinter over recent years (seven time winner). Finished sixth in this contest in 2017 and whilst yet to win on the AW, was beaten just a head by Art Collection over C&D in March 2017 (off a 3lb lower mark).
Blossomed this winter since switched to the AW (3,1,1,1,5) However, those previous Newcastle victories (5f and 6f) came in weaker contests than this race and she's now 5lb above her last winning mark. Not discounted, but a tougher test for sure.
Left previous trainer Owen Burrows for 15,000 gns in November 2017 and heads back down the AW route for a trainer who saddles three other runners. Not raced since August 2017 (modest effort), so best watched with the future in mind.
Kept on strongly to take the 5f maiden on this equivalent card in 2017 before doing well enough on her first couple of starts in handicaps (runner up). Disappointing at Nottingham in August (6f) and absent since. Lightly raced.
His sole official success came in a division of the Brocklesby at Doncaster in April 2017 (good to soft). However, he also ran respectably for much of the remainder of the season losing a race in the Stewards room at Beverley in September (5f soft).
Stable have enjoyed a profitable week so far at Newcastle but this 11-time turf winner (0/2 AW) makes his seasonal reappearance having last raced at Pontefract in September. His last success was in a Class 5 contest, so others make more appeal.
Enjoyed a massively successful winter campaign and is a three-time C&D winner (6,2,1,2,1,2,1,7,2,4). However his form has plateaued lately as he's reached this more demanding level, and he has plenty on his plate today.
Lightly raced after just seven career starts, but packed a punch when scoring at Kempton in September (5f), beating Iconic Knight by 1½L. Arguably a fraction disappointing since; probably doesn't stay further than this 5f. Tricky assignment.
Forecasts
Oriental Lilly (5/1), Lord Of The Glen (11/2), Captain Lars (6/1), Marseille (7/1), Fendale (9/1), Requinto Dawn (9/1), Dynamo Walt (12/1), Knockout Blow (12/1), Move In Time (16/1), Orient Class (16/1), Lexington Place (25/1), Tylery Wonder (25/1), Landing Night (25/1), Tanasoq (25/1)
A wide open sprint handicap to kick off the Good Friday All Weather Championships action at Newcastle, with the waters further muddied by the fact that Paul Midgley saddles no fewer than four runners. The likes of Captain Lars, Oriental Lilly and Lord Of The Glen have enjoyed hugely profitable winters and are a credit to their connections, but this rates as by far their toughest respective tests yet. In a race which is almost impossible to solve, we'll roll the dice with DYNAMO WALT. He tends to put his best foot forward late on in a race, so granted a strong early pace, he could be rattling home (stands side) as he did so over C&D in a Class 3 handicap in December 2016.
- Dynamo Walt
- Landing Night
- Marseille
