Winner of a Ludlow novice hurdle in his younger days he never really built on that when sent handicapping. His chasing career looks to have been shelved for now (jumped with no conviction last time) and now back over hurdles off career-low mark.

Comes here off a run in a jumpers bumper having returned to his best form over hurdles at Catterick the time before off a 5lb lower mark. Took advantage of a reduced mark there and now has to prove himself off a mark such as this.

Looked to have been brought along with handicaps in mind and despite starting at a big price he proved good enough for a winning handicap debut over C&D. Good solid efforts since and should once again prove competitive off this mark.

Makes his handicap debut stepped up in trip after facing an unsuitable test at Fakenham last time having shaped well over hurdles previously. Yet to win over hurdles but will find this test more suitable especially; needs a real stamina test.

Bounced back to his best last time wearing first-time blinkers in testing conditions at Sedgefield taking the runner-up slot. Now steps up in trip (has won over similar) but has to cope with a 7lb rise in the weights (career-high mark).

Has progressed nicely in handicaps this season after a break winning twice and only thwarted in a hat-trick bid last time by another improving type. Given a break since then and off a 5lb higher mark but leading chance if in the same form.

May well have needed the run here last time although his attitude did leave a little to be desired running in snatches. Prior to his break had shaped well in handicaps but remains 10lb above his last winning mark and that may see him held for now.

His last outing was probably his best but that still looked to be modest form and not really enough to make him of interest as he enters handicaps for the first time. Looked rather hard work and hard to see him winning this.

Back down to his last winning mark which he achieved when taking a Worcester handicap early last year (2m4f). Took a crashing fall on gruelling ground on his chasing debut last time and this looks to be a confidence building outing.

Forecasts

Benechenko (3/1), Itsnonofurbusiness (10/3), On A Promise (9/2), Sam Noir (7/1), Loch Linnhe (10/1), Tyrell (14/1), Sultans Pride (14/1), Its Pandorama (16/1), Apple Of Our Eye (20/1)

Verdict

The one really progressive sort in here is ON A PROMISE who still looked to be going forward when runner-up last time out in a Wetherby handicap that contained plenty of previous winners. It was no disgrace to get beaten there and he doesn’t meet any such types in this. Itsnonofurbusiness has run some solid races since winning on his handicap debut and should do so again here featuring of what still looks a competitive mark. Both Tyrell and Its Pandorama have to prove themselves off increased marks after decent recent runs while Benechenko ought to appreciate this test of stamina stepping in handicaps for the first time.
