Picked up where she left off when winning at Warwick in November making a successful start in handicaps. Looked open to further improvement but fell on her next start and not seen since; looks capable off this mark and has gone well fresh before.

The fitting of cheekpieces on his second start in a handicap produced the goods last time. Also likely this trip on bad ground were other contributory factors and he is one to consider despite an 8lb rise.

Better class than this at his peak and current mark is 10lb below that which brought his last success over fences a year ago. Trip and conditions are fine, but he needs to bounce back from some poor runs this term.

Ten Times Bettert126
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-11| J: Stan Sheppard(3)| T: M Sheppard| OR:  119

Useful novice over hurdles in Ireland earlier in his career, though has clearly had his problems in recent times. Pulled up on return from 649-day absence at Exeter last time and looks best watched for the moment.

Winner over fences a year ago and last hurdling success came from this mark. Handles soft ground, but this trip on heavy may prove too far.

Has been given a break since jumping poorly and failing in hat-trick bid. Current mark may be high enough for now

Has won over trips ranging from 2m-3m this season and the form of his Ludlow race in January has worked out nicely. Has done well to avoid another incremental rise for his latest run when chasing home an "improver" and finishing clear of the third.

Would have a chance on his best form, but nowhere near that level so far this season. Wind surgery needs to have a significant effect.

Ran well last time showing no ill-effects from a previous fall to chase home an odds-on chance. Had shown ability in his previous starts some in these conditions and looks the sort to go forward now given a chance in handicaps.

Norse Legendp137
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-1| J: H Cobden| T: C L Tizzard| OR:  109| BF

Well-supported on stable debut last month when he needed to be persuaded to continue on the final circuit. No surprise to see headgear fitted this time and he is undoubtedly well-treated on some of his old form.

Stolbergp12
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-12| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: D L Williams| OR:  106| D

Suited by these conditions and he will be more at home over this trip than was the case last time. January's Lingfield success came in lower grade and there may be better handicapped horses in this.

Great Tempop102
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-11| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe| OR:  105

Failed to convince over 3m last time and quickly drops down in trip. Has fallen another 5lb in the handicap to a career low, but still far from convincing at present.

Wenceslaus27
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-10| J: T J Phelan| T: D G Bridgwater| OR:  104

Has shown signs of ability but latest effort casts doubts he wants to go this far on ground this testing.

The deeper the ground the better for this veteran. Well-enough handicapped, but he was never travelling well at any stage on his reappearance and he is best watched here.

Verdict

Colin Tizzard has a strong hand with Brynmawr and Norse Legend both holding strong claims. The latter looked a difficult ride last time and is the type to improve for cheekpieces, whilst Brynmawr was transformed by those same aids when scoring last time. TAKE EM OUT looks the type to reveal more now handicapping and with the champion jockey booked to ride. His Taunton hurdling debut came in a race which has worked out well with those around him achieving much higher ratings than the 107 he races off here. Virginia Chick rates the principal danger having improved through the winter and losing nothing in defeat last time.
  1. Take Em Out
  2. Virginia Chick
  3. Norse Legend
