Has won over a similar trip on heavy ground at Haydock and ran really well back there last time when beaten less than 2L from today's mark. Looks set for another competitive effort.

Took advantage of the fall of favourite Isaacstown Lad when scoring at Haydock (2m7f, heavy) in December from this mark. Out of sorts on his last two runs, but now back on this rating and in these conditions, he has to be taken very seriously.

Irish point-to-point winner who has yet to break his duck under rules. Best efforts have been on soft ground (unraced on heavy). Ran well on first run after wind op at Ascot (2m3½f) last month and may now improve, though initial mark stiff enough.

Was building a progressive profile in 2016, winning a novices' handicap at Fakenham (2m7½f, good to soft) and looking the winner when unseating next time. Not seen for almost two years and dropped 5lb now. Market check looks essential.

Narrowly touched off in both his last two starts at Ayr (both 3m½f, heavy), but now put up 5lb as a result. No doubt he is in good form, but that makes his task tough enough in a better race today.

Forecasts

Dedigout (5/2), Isaacstown Lad (11/4), Tomngerry (3/1), Warthog (7/2), Eminent Poet (9/2), Roycano (8/1)

Verdict

Another interesting race despite the relatively small field, with Isaacstown Lad and Eminent Poet both probably capable of winning from their marks and very much at home on heavy ground. However, TOMNGERRY has also won in these conditions and is fit and firing after a recent bumper win. He has untapped potential over this trip and is taken to defy top weight. Both Warthog and Roycano should be monitored in the market and it would not surprise to see either go well.

  2. Eminent Poet
  3. Isaacstown Lad
