Won a moderate event at Fontwell latest, beating only one other serious contender, and a 6lb rise for that looks harsh. Upped in trip here, not a given to help either, and he could be vulnerable to any improver.

Hasn't been with this yard long, ran respectably for them on first start at Ffos Las but will need to settle a little better if he's to finish his race off. May find this trip stretching him a bit too, although some drying ground would help. Risky.

Has always threatened to make a good chaser and he might have started to fulfil that potential when coming good at Market Rasen last time (well backed). 4lb rise for that fair and should stay this longer trip. Looks a player.

Not seen for almost two years, first start for new yard too but handicapper has given him a real chance if fit on chase debut today and yard can ready them after an absence. Interesting and any money for him only increases confidence.

Came good from a 4lb lower mark than this at Chepstow in December but handicapper has him where he wants him at present and despite going off favourite at Ffos Las last time, only managed third. Step back up in trip may help, but others preferred.

Has got himself handicapped on three runs in maiden hurdles, a couple of which were not without promise, but has won two small point-to-points and could be well in here. Will stay this trip and one of the more interesting ones.

Another switching to fences today and yard have a good record with such types, especially ones that are point-to-point winners (as this one is). Plenty of promise in a couple of hurdles runs and no surprise if he leaves previous form behind today.

Has the scope for chasing and might find this task more to his liking after being set some stiff ones over hurdles the last 12 months. Headgear goes on, looks very well handicapped and another to add spice to an interesting event.

Forecasts

Bigpipenotobacee (3/1), Minella Scamp (7/2), Bramble Brook (4/1), The Dawn Man (7/1), Lord Bryan (8/1), Blackmill (8/1), Russian Service (12/1), King Kayf (12/1)

Verdict

An interesting contest and the three at the foot of the handicap could be the three to concentrate on. All three have the scope to do better now handicapped and seeing fences, and of the three, the winning pointer BLACKMILL could be the one. He looks well treated on that point form and can take this. The Dawn Man and Russian Service Bigpipenotobacee was a winner at Market Rasen and is another likely to do better.
  1. Blackmill
  2. The Dawn Man
  3. Bigpipenotobacee
