Faced a very tricky assignment in a Class 2 C&D handicap latest, but prior to that his form figures over 5f and 6f here this winter read; 6,2,1,2,1,2,1. 7lb above his last winning mark, but this is much more realistic.

Despite a slow start, he landed the knockout blow on his AW debut when dispatching eight other rivals in a 5f novice auction stakes at Kempton in September. Didn't stay 6f next time, and absent since early October. Handicap debut.

Has picked up the winning mentality, doubling up in a pair of 5f events at Lingfield last month; ridden out to beat Meerpat by a head latest (Marietta Robusti third). This straight 5f is a much different test for his handicap debut.

No stranger to C&D clashes with Lord Of The Glen. Beaten 3L by that rival latest when adopting different tactics to previously (prominent). Hood applied in order to curb his enthusiasm and allow him to settle and deploy his turn of foot.

Held by Grandfather Tom on Lingfield form from February, but has improved since then with a Chelmsford victory on Saturday (5f). Turned out quickly at Lingfield on Wednesday for handicap debut, finishing 3¾L second to the thriving Warrior's Valley.

Forecasts

Grandfather Tom (9/4), Lord Of The Glen (3/1), Marietta Robusti (4/1), Wiff Waff (9/2), Knockout Blow (5/1)

Verdict

The smallest field of the night, but a trappy affair which features some in-form horses. Lord Of The Glen and Wiff Waff know each other well, and the latter named of that pair is narrowly preferred assuming that the first time hood can help him to settle better than previously. Marietta Robusti is seeing the majority of her AW form-lines franked with each day that passes, and she's improved since being beaten by GRANDFATHER TOM at Lingfield last month. However, whilst Newcastle is a very different test of a sprinter to Lingfield Park, we'll opt to stick with the form that is in the book and chance that the Robert Cowell trained sprinter can notch a hat-trick.
  1. Grandfather Tom
  2. Marietta Robusti
  3. Wiff Waff
