Shantaluze⁴²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-9| J: B S Hughes| T: D McCain Jnr

11/8

Picked up for £40,000 in November following his 2L victory at Tinahely in late October (3m yielding to soft). Well related, and made a winning start for new connections when a ready 6L winner of a fair Kelso bumper in January (heavy).

Form: 5-11

Glentrool³⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: James Davies| T: S Thomas

17/2

Full brother to a couple of point-to-point winners, and has made the frame on both starts in bumpers so far at Plumpton and Hereford. That said; he's not looked anything out of the ordinary, and shouldn't trouble Shantaluze.

Form: 33

My Turgeon

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: D A Jacob| T: B Pauling

2/1

Unraced third foal by Turgeon out of a French 2m1f-2m2f winning chaser (My Belle). Cost €20,000 as a yearling, and is notable as the trainer/jockey's sole runner/ride at the meeting.

Form:

Twotwothree^t1²⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: Ross Turner⁽⁷⁾| T: O Greenall & J Guerriero

4/1

Easy 10L winner of a maiden point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett in December for Sam Allwood. Showed up well early on stable/bumper debut at Catterick last month, weakening to finish 3L behind The Some Dance Kid. Tongue tied on more testing ground.

Form: 312

Night Manager

Weight: 10-8| Age: 4

Forecasts

Shantaluze (11/8), My Turgeon (2/1), Twotwothree (4/1), Glentrool (17/2), Night Manager (25/1)

Ben Pauling is a rare visitor to Carlisle (0 from 2 since 2013), and ditto that comment for Daryl Jacob (1 from 7 since 2013), so it's certainly noteworthy that the pair venture to the North West with the newcomer My Turgeon. However, he'll need to be an above average sort in order to lower the colours of the Donald McCain trained SHANTALUZE. He has a penalty to carry for his January Kelso success, but he appears to be a horse with a positive future based upon both his pedigree and on racecourse evidence, so with Brian Hughes once more in the saddle, he's strongly fancied to make it 2 from 2 under rules.
