Budarri^h²⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-12| J: Sam Coltherd⁽⁵⁾| T: W Coltherd| OR: 100

16/1

Beaten 23L when finishing third in a 2m novices hurdle (heavy) at Perth in September, and run to just a similar level of form since. Makes his handicap debut in a race where his trainer also saddles Shanaway.

Form: 90-364

Shanaway¹⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 11-7| J: Danny Cook| T: W Coltherd| OR: 95

3/1

Fell at the fifth on his reappearance from a 14-month break (stable debut) at Wetherby last month. A nine race maiden who can seemingly compete from his current mark, but his trainer also saddles Budarri.

Form: 03728-F

Instingtive¹⁰^{(ex 7)}

Age: 7| Weight: 11-0| J: Ross Chapman⁽³⁾| T: Miss L Harrison| OR: 81| D

9/4

Exploited a falling mark when making all and ploughing through the mud at Ayr early last week to score by 1½L from today's rival Pc Dixon. Has a 7lb penalty to carry, but successful off higher marks in the past for Gary Moore (chase).

Form: 000431

Strait Run^p,t¹⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 10-10| J: Joe Colliver| T: Micky Hammond| OR: 84| D

7/2

Landed a minor touch (33s to 11s), when driven right out by this rider to down Dark and Dangerous by 3½L at Sedgefield latest (2m1f). Raised 5lb, but the suspicion remains that the Durham venue is his track (run well there in the past).

Form: 0P2P-01

Pc Dixon¹⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 10-10| J: Thomas Dowson⁽³⁾| T: V Thompson| OR: 84

3/1

Slowly coming to hand at a lowly level, and should find a small race sooner or later. Beaten 1½L by the front running Instingtive at Ayr last week (travelled well), and that winner has a 7lb penalty to carry today.

Form: 067242

Forecasts

Instingtive (9/4), Pc Dixon (3/1), Shanaway (3/1), Strait Run (7/2), Budarri (16/1)

More than fair to say this contest features a host of irregular winners, with recent Sedgefield scorer Strait Run now just 2 from 35 (1 from 18 over hurdles). Instingtive and PC DIXON locked horns before the big freeze at Ayr last week, with the Lisa Harrison trained runner making all of the running on a stellar day for Ross Chapman. However, he has a 7lb penalty to carry for that success, and the selection has shown gradual improvement of late in low grade handicaps, so he can reverse that Ayr form and notch a maiden victory at the eighth attempt over hurdles.
