Useful stayer on the Flat (rated in the 90s) and was right at home at this sort of trip. Has at least had Fibresand experience having finished fifth here in a 2m handicap last time but you'd be hard pushed to say he definitely acted on the surface.

Has shown some useful form over hurdles and is a winner on the Flat, albeit at trips much shorter than today. This surface an unknown as well, and on Flat ratings, a little to find.

Winner at Yarmouth last year (at a trip just short of 12f) but since then form has become progressively worse. Showed nothing in a maiden hurdle at Fakenham last time and hard to fancy.

Only moderate on the Flat and wouldn't hold a candle to some of these on turf, but as a proven 2m Fibresand winner here (twice, in August and January) that counts for plenty. In good form and has to be taken seriously.

Verdict

The first of six Jumpers Bumpers today, and with the fixture being held at Southwell, as well as all the usual pitfalls to avoid in these races, we have the added question of which horses that have never tried the surface will act on it. In this first race, there's no such qualms with SHINE BABY SHINE, twice a winner in 2m handicaps here over the past few months. He wouldn't get near a few of these under normal circumstances but the Fibresand is a great leveller and he can put his experience of the place to good use. Magic Dancer is the class act here and there's a decent chance he'll go on the surface, so he looks the danger. With Swashbuckle not really performing with any great relish on his only start here, maybe Ortenzia could be the one for the trifecta spot.
