Breeding suggests we won't see the best of this one until getting more of a trip, but he ran very well on debut at Huntingdon at the end of last year (fifth a winner earlier in the week). Extra yardage here will help and should get involved again.

Half brother to classy chasers Southfield Theatre and Southfield Vic gives you an idea of where his future probably lies, but yard get plenty of winners in this sphere (22% strike rate last five seasons) and he has to be given maximum respect.

Showed plenty of ability on debut when third in a better contest than this at Ascot (Listed event) but hugely disappointing here when beaten at long odds-on last time. Step back up in trip should help and earlier form makes him the one to beat.
Tailed off on debut and plenty to find if he 's to have any chance here. Yard not known for bumper winners either and not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Point-to-point winner last May and has shown a modicum of promise in two starts so far. Needs to improve here and whilst that not beyond the realms of possibility, others still make a bit more appeal.

Forecasts

The Flying Sofa (13/8), Shaughnessy (13/8), Southfield Torr (4/1), Black Lightning (4/1), L'chamise (15/2), Wontstopmenow (200/1)

Verdict

THE FLYING SOFA is forgiven the backwards step he took last time as the drop in trip may have been responsible and if going back to his debut Ascot run, would hold a solid chance here. Southfield Torr will be one for notebooks regardless of what he does here, as he's bred to do well given a bit of time. Shaughnessy is another that ran well first time up and wouldn't have to progress much to be a danger to the selection here.
  1. The Flying Sofa
  2. Shaughnessy
  3. Southfield Torr
