Winner three times on the Flat, including a Listed race here, and successful over hurdles in late 2016 when trained by Willie Mullins. Has hardly beaten a rival for this yard and the reapplication of a visor may not be enough in this company.
Successful in a bumper but proved notoriously difficult to win with over hurdles. Landed a poor Chelmsford maiden in December, but doubtful he has either the ability or the will to win this.
Landed a valuable York handicap in 2013 but without a win since. An official rating of 82 leaves him needing to find a lot to trouble most of these.
Placed in Listed company here two seasons ago, but has plenty to find with Watersmeet on running at Lingfield last time..
Northumberland Plate fourth who had not looked the most resolute until the visor inspired an impressive effort last time. More needed this time and it remains to be seen if the aids have the same effect.
Listed winner over 2m on turf in the summer of 2016 for John Ryan, but has failed to progress in various grades since. May have needed his latest run, but hard to respect his chances at present.
Well in at the weights when gaining successes at Wolverhampton and Lingfield this year to take his AW tally to 10. Favoured by the conditions again and the obvious one to beat.
Forecasts
Lord George (1/1), Watersmeet (11/8), Curbyourenthusiasm (8/1), Aussie Reigns (33/1), Sandro Botticelli (40/1), Bardd (50/1), Continuum (100/1)
WATERSMEET bids for a hat-trick before bidding to improve on last year's second in the AW Championship Marathon. The 10-time AW winner is best in at the weights and faces his biggest threat from Lord George. James Fanshawe's grey had developed a losing attitude until the visor altered that mindset last time. This will be tougher, but previous efforts suggest he is not far off the standard required. If the visor continues to have the same impact he could be one to follow.
- Watersmeet
- Lord George
- Curbyourenthusiasm
