Disappointing in handicap company since winning a novice hurdle over 2m at Warwick (soft) in March last year. Couple of better efforts last month at Doncaster and Huntingdon, though may still need more relief from assessor.

Hasn't been sighted since winning Southwell novice hurdle (2m4½f, good) in effortless fashion in August 2016 under this rider. Opening handicap mark looks surmountable if wound up for return from 536 days off.

French import, filly has been off the track 421 days having been pulled up at Pau when last out. First start for Harry Fry, sports a tongue-tie and jockey bookings suggest the run may be needed.

Capable hurdler, has run solid enough races at Southwell and Musselburgh this term, handles soft ground and should be fine over this longer trip. Place claims again.

Mare has been placed in novice events at Exeter and Leicester so far over hurdles, the first of them over today's trip in soft ground. Suited by this journey and one to note on handicap debut.

Mare out of Canford Cliffs, she made a pleasing start over timber at Musselburgh last month when close second, filled the same berth since at Wetherby but essentially a sideways step at best there, up in trip now for handicap debut.

Hasn't really lived up to expectations since arriving from France, but produced better effort last time at Hereford (2m, soft) and stable's recent record is 3-7, could be more to come.

Wide margin winner at Fakenham a year ago and has found life tougher in handicaps since. Has looked a shade too high in the weights but better efforts at Southwell and Leicester recently and gets another 3lb back. Will soon be dangerous.

Improving over fences this season, scoring at Warwick and here over 2m3f, potentially well handicapped back over hurdles but winless in five previously in this sphere.

Failed to fire on first couple of starts after joining this yard from Ireland but ready winner at Ludlow (2m5f, soft) last month and much-respected again despite going up 11lb for that success.

Travelled well for a long way over 2m3f (heavy) at Warwick on New Year's Eve but didn't find much for pressure. Less promising since at Leicester and hard to be confident in chances despite going back up in trip.

Took advantage of drop in grade when landing Fakenham selling handicap hurdle on Friday, will carry a 7lb penalty and in deeper water now, ensuring plenty more is required in this quick turnaround.

Forecasts

Dahills Hill (5/1), Grand Turina (13/2), Pretty Reckless (7/1), Northern Beau (7/1), Isle Of Ewe (8/1), Kalaniti (8/1), Samarayia (10/1), Jaune Et Bleue (10/1), Iconic Sky (12/1), Vivant (12/1), Chandos Belle (14/1), Beyeh (14/1)

Verdict

ISLE OF EWE is the most interesting of these mares. She made a flawless winning start over timber at Southwell back in August of 2016 with Richard Johnson on board, but hasn't been spotted since. The booking of the champion jockey suggests connections are confident she is ready to roll now and, if so, this opening handicap mark gives her a solid chance. Dahills Hill won in good style at Leicester last time and can go well despite a ratings hike. Grand Turina is slowly going the right way, while Iconic Sky has also taken tentative steps lately – both could figure soon from their decreasing marks. Kalaniti should handle this extra yardage, while Jaune Et Bleue represents a yard in fine fettle and handicap debutante Samarayia is also worth paying some attention to.
  1. Isle Of Ewe
  2. Dahills Hill
  3. Jaune Et Bleue
