Son of Firebreak who is a half-brother to three winners including Flat and hurdles scorer Colisay. Makes his debut at the age of five and is likely to need the experience.

Without a win in 10 races, seven of them on the AW, and was third of four over 5f at this venue last time. Hard to make any sort of case for.

Sweet And Dandy21
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: Rossa Ryan(5)| T: J C Fox| CD
2/1
Promise on debut at Kempton and duly stepped up on that display when winning a 12-runner novice contest over C&D, defying odds of 50-1. There should be more to come so she looks a leading contender under her promising claimer.

Well held on her first start at Kempton, but ran with a little more promise over 7f at this course on his latest outing. Needs to find more and will probably be seen to better effect in handicaps.

Haverland21
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: S Donohoe| T: C Fellowes| OR:  68
13/2
Has failed to hit the frame in four starts, but has shown signs of ability. Takes a drop in trip to sprinting and needs to improve for the switch.

6/4
Definite signs of ability on debut at Sandown as a juvenile and, after being gelded, he shaped well on his reappearance to finish fifth to Sweet And Dandy over C&D. Has a 7lb pull for a beating of 1¾L so has bright prospects of turning the tables.

Wilde Oscar14
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: P Hanagan| T: R A Fahey
20/1
Not much to shout about in two starts at Newcastle and reverts to 6f after running over 7f last time. Represents prolific trainer/jockey combination and qualifies for a handicap mark after this.

Geetanjali132
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: Danny Brock| T: M L W Bell
33/1
Roderic O'Connor filly who is a half-sister to a couple of winners. Beat only one rival on debut at Chelmsford in October and is probably one for further down the line.

Heptathlete142
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: L Morris| T: George Baker
9/2
Daughter of Mount Nelson who is a half-sister to two winners who were effective on the AW. Plenty of promise when fourth of 12 over 7f on only start at Kempton last season and has serious claims on that display with improvement expected.
10
(6)
Horse silk
50/1
Foxwedge filly who was a cheap purchase but is a half-sister to four winners, including the very useful 7f performer Finjaan. Will probably need this debut run, but is worth keeping an eye on given her breeding.

Forecasts

Mighty Mac (6/4), Sweet And Dandy (2/1), Heptathlete (9/2), Haverland (13/2), Wilde Oscar (20/1), Geetanjali (33/1), Felstead Knight (33/1), Skip To My Lou (50/1), Taurean Gold (100/1), Legal Mind (100/1)

Verdict

Heptathlete made a highly-promising debut and has serious claims if able to build on it, but he has fitness and the ability to act over a shorter trip to prove, so this may be fought out by the race-fit Sweet And Dandy and MIGHTY MAC, who finished first and fifth over C&D last month and may feature a reversal in placings at these weights. Not many of the others make much appeal, but Wilde Oscar is one to watch with future handicaps in mind.
  1. Mighty Mac
  2. Sweet And Dandy
  3. Heptathlete
