Both wins have come at Chelmsford including one over 6f (made all) under a welter burden, beating an odds-on favourite. Unexposed as a sprinter and should handle this surface given his pedigree.

12/1
The only runner of the quintet who has experience of the surface and won here last time out on his first run since leaving George Scott in a handicap. Now drops back down to 6f which is unlikely to be a problem and should put his experience here to good use.

Back from a long absence having shown promise when starting at a big price on his debut when with Jeremy Gask. Went backwards on second start and now with a new yard but his sire only has a 5% strike-rate on Fibresand.

Well held in two bumpers when with Tina Jackso,n he now makes his debut for a new yard and trying this surface for the first time. Looks up against it here on his first Flat run.

Light Laughter20
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-11| J: Jason Watson(7)| T: C Fellowes| OR:  70
11/8
Showed promise on turf/AW when with Dermot Weld in Ireland and ran with credit on her first run for this yard over 7f at Lingfield. Should be sharper for the run and her breeding looks ideal for this surface but 6f may prove a little sharp.

Forecasts

Volatile (10/11), Light Laughter (11/8), Essential (12/1), Cold Fire (12/1), Dutch Coed (100/1)

Verdict

Only one of the protagonists has had any experience of the surface and that came when Essential took a 7f handicap last time but he might find this a tougher test back in novice company against a couple of useful sorts. Light Laughter ran well last time out and should go well here on breeding and for a trainer (Charlie Fellowes) who is building a solid reputation at the track. However, the vote goes to VOLATILE who looks unexposed as a sprinter and should be fine on the surface given his breeding.
  1. Volatile
  2. Light Laughter
  3. Essential
