Won successive class 2 handicaps (both 1m) around this time last year and, following a light turf campaign, has bounced back to go close twice on the AW this winter. Obvious contender in her current mood, though unproven on the track.

Decent strike-rate on turf but only got off the mark on the AW at the 19th attempt over C&D last time out when winning a class 5 handicap. This looks a big ask on official ratings.

Gained the best of her three wins when edging out Soul Silver by 1¼L on her penultimate start over 7f at Lingfield but now 8lb worse off with that rival and ran abysmally since. Questions to answer after that.

Won a good class 2 handicap over 1m at Newbury last summer and has shown up well in both AW starts this winter, chasing home Pattie over 7f last time when attempting to give 8lb. Likely to reverse that form.

Has been well-placed to win five starts from 15, including her two most recent starts over 7f at Kempton and Wolverhampton (both class 5's). Should continue to progress but something to find on ratings.

Forecasts

Carolinae (11/8), Soul Silver (2/1), Pattie (9/2), Veena (8/1), Courier (14/1)

Verdict

Official figures suggest this should be between Carolinae and SOUL SILVER with the latter taken to come out on top. Though Charlie Fellowes mare fared better of the pair when they finished third and fourth respectively in a handicap at Wolverhampton in December, the younger SOUL SILVER appears to have more scope and should be able to reverse Wolverhampton form with Pattie over an extra furlong on 8lb better terms.
  1. Soul Silver
  2. Carolinae
  3. Pattie
