Looked promising when winning a Uttoxeter maiden hurdle (2m, heavy) by 13L a year ago and has improved since without adding to that. Beaten just 1½L from 1lb higher at Haydock (2m3f) in December and has claims dropped in grade.

Won back-to-back novices' hurdles at Lingfield and Sedgefield (2m4f, soft) early last year. Went well in two handicaps back at Lingfield in November, though not at that level over 2m5½f at Fontwell last time. Competitive if back to her best here.

Showed improvement to win back-to-back novices' hurdles at Ludlow (2m, soft) and here over C&D (soft) last March. Stayed on for a 19L second on handicap debut at Exeter last time and from the same mark he is not ruled out.

5lb higher today than when scoring at Hexham in September (2m4f, good to soft), which was the last time the champion jockey rode him. Handles testing ground and was sent off at just 9-2 before unseating last time. Interesting.

Showed promise as a juvenile last season, winning in France (2m1f, heavy). English form hasn't yet matched her best French effort, but handicapper has now cut her some slack with a 7lb drop. Interesting, though does have stamina to prove.

Has shown a bit of promise in novices' company and goes handicapping here on what looks a reasonable mark. Step up in trip looks positive and he appears to handle soft ground. Market check suggested.

0-8 so far, the closest he has come to winning being when beaten just over 1L at Exeter (2m1f, soft) last March. Drops back slightly in trip today (pulled up over 2m5½f last time) and that plus visor may help.

Has run with credit in all four handicap outings and went close when ½L second at Fontwell (2m5½f, good) in November. 7lb higher than that at present and on recent evidence he probably has each-way claims.

Has made the frame in 5-8 hurdles, though yet to win one. Best effort was here over C&D (heavy) in November, which is encouraging. 1lb higher today and if back to that level of form then he would enter calculations.

Goes on well on testing ground and scored over C&D in March from 3lb lower. Wasn't far off that form on his first two starts this term, though pulled up when dropped in trip last time. Should be thereabouts if back to form over this longer trip.

Sole success was in a Tipperary maiden hurdle (2m, good) in July 2016. Went close in a handicap on his next start from 9lb higher than today, but not yet shown enough for this trainer to be recommended. Stamina also to prove.

Only win over hurdles came over C&D (heavy) in 2015, when 22lb higher. Has to be respected back at a track that he clearly enjoys, but recent form is discouraging and others are preferred today.

Beaten a neck by Rafafie over C&D in March (soft) and now 6lb better off. Has failed to reach anything like that level of form in two starts this term and new headgear now fitted. Claims if that can get her back in the same mood as she was in March.

Forecasts

With Pleasure (9/2), Quids In (11/2), Billy Hicks (11/2), Molly Carew (6/1), Quiz Master (17/2), Daisy De Sivola (12/1), Rafafie (12/1), Vango De Vaige (14/1), Mountain Of Mourne (16/1), Martabot (16/1), Champagne Chaser (25/1), We'll Be There (33/1), Lord Fendale (40/1)

Verdict

At the time of writing, Richard Johnson is down to ride both Champagne Chaser and handicap debutante Vango De Vaige and his choice will be interesting. Johnson has ridden the former runner to all three of his career wins, so his presence on board may prove to be significant. Without that knowledge, however, the suggestion is top weight QUIDS IN, who looks to have claims now dropped in grade, with conditions to suit. Molly Carew and Daisy De Sivola are mares who could make their presence felt, while We'll Be There is not ruled out if the headgear works. Martabot is another who is being tried in a new headgear combi and a market check with regard to his chance looks prudent.
