Left his promising bumper form well behind with an easy 5L success on hurdles debut at Chepstow in November (2m, soft). Ran with credit under a penalty at Aintree last time, despite being last of three and is very much respected.
Raced keenly when 15L seventh of 13 on debut in a Musselburgh bumper (1m7½f, good) in November. Enough stamina in pedigree to suggest that this trip should be fine, though this looks a big ask on his hurdles debut.
Has improved with every run so far and was beaten just 1L over C&D (soft) by a previous winner, when sent off at 20-1 here last month. Wouldn't have to do a whole lot more improving to go close again today.
Runner-up three times in bumpers, when showing ability. Now goes hurdling over a trip that those bumpers runs suggests will suit. Handles soft ground and looks an interesting runner. Market check suggested.
Has shown a decent level of ability over both hurdles and once over fences when with Nicky Henderson. Handles cut and stays this far. Now in fresh hands for first start since March and market should be a good indicator as to his readiness.
Forecasts
The Last Day (10/11), Sam's Gunner (85/40), What's The Scoop (6/1), Scheu Time (9/1), L'etoile (50/1)
The Last Day looks capable of winning more races, but this is tough enough under a penalty and preference is for SAM'S GUNNER, who outperformed his SP considerably here last time and should be capable of improving again. Scheu Time and What's The Scoop are both interesting runners for whom market checks look essential.
