Was on the up in 2015, winning several races before injury struck. Not much encouragement in two recent starts over hurdles/fences when pulled up both times. Now dropped 8lb to a handy mark, but needs to prove what ability he retains.

Has a C&D win to his name (soft) from 2014 but has not managed to score since. Now 24lb lower than his ceiling rating of 145 and went close from 3lb higher at Ayr in November. Hard to catch right but claims if on a going day.

3m and soft ground is the ideal scenario for this multiple winner, who is now 18lb lower than his last winning mark from 2016. Back to better form here over 3m2f last time and shorter trip likely to better suit him. Enters calculations.

Handles cut, though yet to win on slower than good to soft. Won on second start for this trainer at Uttoxeter (3m) in 2016, but not seen then for 13-months. Had wind op since that latest start, so check market for clues as to possible improvement.

Bako De La Saulaie34

9/2
Won back-to-back races at Kelso (2m6½f, good to soft) and Wetherby (3m, good to soft) last season, both over hurdles. Made a respectable chase debut at Newcastle last month and 3lb drop could bring him into this.

Maiden after nine starts, the last two being over fences. Unseated when leading four out at Ludlow on debut and led/was handy for a long way back there (2m4f, good to soft) last time. Can't be ruled out from 1lb lower.

Was in good form over both hurdles and fences on good/fast ground last spring. Certainly on a competitive mark here and has won on soft ground, so may be able to do better than when pulled up on reappearance and has a squeak.

Won four off the reel last season, three of them in January, including on soft ground and at up to 3m. Stayed on well and beaten less than 4L at Sandown (2m4f, heavy) from this mark last time and not ruled out.

Has won on soft ground, though best form has been on good and is without a win since 2014. Looks well handicapped on his Perth form from August/September, but out of sorts since and has a bit to prove.

Had been frustrating to follow but finally broke his duck when today's pilot staged an amazing recovery after late mistake to win at Wetherby (3m, soft) last month. Another good run from this mark last time, so can't rule him out.

Has won four of her 22 chases, the last of them from 5lb higher last March. Stays 3m and has won on soft ground. Inconsistent, but if on a going day then she has claims from this mark.

Forecasts

Capard King (7/2), Shanroe In Milan (9/2), Bako De La Saulaie (9/2), Amber Gambler (5/1), Captain Mowbray (8/1), Cobajayisland (12/1), Grandads Horse (14/1), Dawnieriver (18/1), Steel Summit (22/1), Baileys Concerto (33/1), Riddlestown (50/1)

Verdict

CAPARD KING ran well here until fading over slightly further last time out and may be able to see it out to the line over this trip, so gets the vote on ground that suits. Captain Mowbray should again be thereabouts and is short-listed, while Amber Gambler and Shanroe In Milan both have claims. Cobajayisland would be interesting if supported after wind surgery, while Bako De La Saulale showed enough promise on his chase debut to think that he can also get more closely involved.
  1. Capard King
  2. Captain Mowbray
  3. Amber Gambler
