Won a Ffos Las bumper (heavy) on debut last month and was sent off 6-4 favourite for his hurdles debut at Sandown last time. Didn't jump with fluency there and beaten 31L. Needs to get back on track this time.
Improved on his Uttoxeter debut when an 8L third at Wetherby (2m, soft) when last seen in November. He was badly hampered early on that day, so could have finished closer and he should be a contender in this field.
Stays 1m6f on the Flat where he is a maiden and rated 65. Ran reasonably well on hurdles debut prior to unseating here over C&D in November and should be capable of improving on that effort. Wouldn't surprise to see him in the mix.
Maiden under both codes but has begun to do a little better over hurdles on his last two runs. Was 9L second at Taunton (soft) last time and will need to improve significantly on that to figure in the shake-up.
Won at Chelmsford (1m5½f, AW) last month from a mark of 65 and ran with plenty of credit on his hurdles debut at Sandown (2m, heavy) last time, considering he raced keenly for a long way. Needs to settle better but has claims.
Has won two of his 10 starts since making his debut on the Flat in Ireland in April, the latest over 1m4f (AW) at Kempton from a mark of 92. Wasn't fluent on hurdles debut previously, but has the ability if that has been ironed out
Won a Windsor handicap (1m3½f, good to soft) in September from a mark of 76. 14-1 and weakened quickly on stable/hurdles debut at Hereford last week. If he settles better then he can have more of a say this time.
Won a heavy ground Nottingham maiden (1m1½f) in August for Ed Vaughan, though held in a couple of handicaps before being sold for 27,000 gns and joining this in-form trainer. Stable/hurdles debut today with champ booked and could make an impact.
Forecasts
Night Of Glory (13/8), Mister Chow (3/1), Falcon Sun (5/1), Fields Of Fortune (8/1), Swaffham Bulbeck (9/1), Echo Watt (16/1), Marettimo (20/1), Romanor (66/1)
An interesting opener where a case can be made for a number of the field. Echo Watt would enter calculations if jumping better than at Sandown, while Falcon Sun went the right way at Wetherby and looks a leading player here if taking another step up. Field Of Fortune needs a clear round this time and should better his first effort, while Mister Chow needs to settle and if doing so then he can make an impact. Romanor is of the same ilk, while Swaffham Bulbeck handles testing ground on the Flat and is a very interesting newcomer. However, NIGHT OF GLORY has the most Flat speed in this field and handles heavy ground in that sphere. If he can improve on his jumping this time, then he could prove tough to beat.
- Night Of Glory
- Swaffham Bulbeck
- Falcon Sun
