Half-brother to bumper winner Chez Castel Mail, but he failed to attract any interest at auction prior to making his debut at Newcastle in February (a well beaten fourth to Al Shahir). Has had wind surgery since and now wears a tongue tie.

Cost £65,000 as a two-year-old, but you couldn't say that he has exploded onto the scene just yet. Modest on his sole start in France for Paul Webber, he folded tamely on his debut for this trainer in a moderate bumper at Musselburgh.
Kept on from the last to take a Ballindenisk 3m maiden point-to-point for Donnchadh Doyle in May (good). Moved on since, and set to make his rules debut for new connections. Market informative, but looks a longer-term prospect.

11/4
Getaway gelding who cost £90,000 in May following a 4L debut point-to-point success at Bartlemy (3m maiden, good). Closely related to the useful 2m4f-3m1f hurdle/chase winner Accordingtotrev, so very much a horse of note and substance.

Once raced gelding by Al Namix out of a Kahyasi mare. Not too much was expected of him on debut (40/1), and whilst he should be wiser for that initial experience, his trainer has other stronger looking options in this contest.

First foal by Sulamani out of a point-to-point winner (Isle Of Skye). Beaten 7L by Paper Promise on debut in a moderate looking Musselburgh bumper earlier this month, but most certainly out-performed his odds (28/1).

Strike The Pose30
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: C O'Farrell| T: J Ewart| CD
9/4
A surprise winner on debut over C&D in November (good), she made a fruitless journey to Huntingdon in mid December (off), before a disappointing effort there on Boxing Day. Declared to race in a hood at Newcastle recently (off), but not worn today.
Never involved on debut over C&D in November in the race won by Strike A Pose, this looks to be another staging point in the learning curve for this Stowaway mare. Stronger with time over obstacles (half-sister to Beauboreen).
Unraced Oscar mare out of the 2m winning hurdler Smooth Technology. This tenth foal is a half-sister to Italian 5-6f winner Baby Nadia. Denied the opportunity to race on three previous occasions due to abandoned fixtures and travel problems.

Forecasts

Strike The Pose (9/4), Hitman Fred (11/4), Highland Hunter (4/1), Skye Chief (8/1), Into The Breach (10/1), Detonate (12/1), Sueno Toms (14/1), Fig's Pride (25/1), Dali Mail (33/1)

Verdict

James Ewart sends three runners across from his Langholm base, the clear pick of which is November's C&D winner Strike The Pose. This mare has been well travelled since then, having endured a couple of fruitless journeys south to Huntingdon. Interestingly, she was declared to race with a hood at the abandoned Newcastle fixture on January 7th, but that is left off today for whatever reason. The unexposed runners in the line up are the once raced winning point-to-pointers Highland Hunter and HITMAN FRED. The latter is well related, and clearly a horse of note and substance having cost Rose Dobbin £90,000 in May, so he rates as a speculative selection with little in the way of reliable rules form from which to base a sound judgement.
  1. Hitman Fred
  2. Strike The Pose
  3. Highland Hunter
