Was the likeliest winner of 2m4f soft-ground maiden hurdle here last month when closest pursuer fell at the last, leaving him clear. Up in the trip and likely to go very close once more.

Yet to get off the mark in five starts over timber since joining Dan Skelton, has gone close however including in November at Uttoxeter (2m4f, good to soft) when last spotted. Up in distance, capable of getting involved in the finish.

Son of Proclamation whose dam was a winning stayer on the Flat. Nice enough pedigree but heavy defeat in Doncaster bumper on debut in early December doesn't offer much to be positive for this jumping bow.

Point-to-point winner in November 2015, makes first start under rules having joined Olly Murphy but coming here off 785-day layoff. One of two for trainer in this and looks second best of those.

13/8
A mare who has improved with each start over hurdles as she has stepped up in trip. Off the mark in a low key (3m) event at Southwell in December (7L winner), she faces a stiffer task under a penalty but is entitled to be in the mix.
Sent off 66/1 on hurdling bow at Huntingdon (2m4??f, soft) 10 days ago, was seemingly set to outrun those odds when unseating rider four out. Cannot be ruled out on that evidence.

Forecasts

Oscar Star (13/8), Rio Quinto (9/4), Earlshill (9/4), Strawberry Spirit (12/1), Piri Massini (20/1), Hay James (150/1)

Verdict

RIO QUINTO made an impressive debut over timber in winning a maiden hurdle here over 2m4f last month and can build on that now upped in trip. He was already on top when his nearest rival departed the scene late on last time and is fancied to score for the excellent Olly Murphy / Richard Johnson axis once again. Oscar Star was also a winner last time out and isn't overlooked lightly while Earlshill has shown some promise in this sphere. Likewise, Strawberry Spirit was outrunning a big price on her hurdling bow at Huntingdon before unseating 10 days ago and could have a role to play.
  1. Rio Quinto
  2. Oscar Star
  3. Earlshill
