Sent off favourite for similar contest at Aintree in November on chase debut but too many jumping errors and eventually finished last of the quartet. Can do better if brushing up on his fencing.

Fell on chase debut at Worcester in September and remote fourth of seven (beaten 32L) at Newbury last month on sole outing since in novice handicap chase. Must improve to take this prize.

Is 0-4 from since going over fences this term, having peaked as a 139-rated two-time winner over hurdles. Pulled up in decent Aintree handicap (2m4f soft) in November, better suited amongst novices and handicapper has dropped him 4lb.

Solid effort over C&D on chasing debut in November on good ground in similar contest. Confirmed that with ½ L third of 11 in Wincanton handicap (3m1f, heavy) on and sets the standard. Raised 2lb but could be well in under 7lb claiming rider.

Forecasts

Captain Buck's (5/6), Dadsintrouble (10/3), Geordie Des Champs (4/1), Matorico (8/1)

Verdict

CAPTAIN BUCK'S has run well on both starts over fences so far, including over this C&D. He travelled like the best horse on Boxing Day at Wincanton and was just edged out. He's on good terms coming back here with his rider's claim and can register his first success over these obstacles. Geordie Des Champs was sent off favourite at Aintree on his chase bow in November but didn't jump well enough. He'll surely have brushed up on his technique at home and could be a different proposition now. Matorico should find this contest easier than his last race while Dadsintrouble has plenty improvement to find seemingly.
  1. Captain Buck's
  2. Geordie Des Champs
  3. Matorico
