In good form for David Lanigan when last seen in the summer, winning at Bath and Brighton. Starts out for a new trainer and has to prove his effectiveness on the AW off a slightly higher handicap mark.
Made it three wins from seven AW starts when successful over C&D last week. Up 6lb for that, but most of it is negated by the services of a proficient claimer.
Seven-times winner on the Flat who was last seen plying his trade over hurdles. Has a long absence to overcome and is probably best watched on this occasion.
Lightly raced when trained by Richard Hannon, winning one of his six races. Has joined a new yard and makes his first start for 17 months, so he is another for whom a watching brief is advised. Wears a hood for the first time.
One win from 11 starts on the AW and that came 14 months ago at Wolverhampton where he does most of his racing. Ran well at that venue on his latest outing and needs to translate that form to a course he visits for the first time.
Plenty of decent AW form to his name and returned from a break to finish second of 11 at Kempton in November. Has been raised 2lb for that run, but should strip fitter and goes on the short list.
Only win came at this time last year when trained by John Gosden, but ran well enough at Newcastle last time to suggest a return to winning ways is not too far away. Has to defy a 3lb rise.
Top-weight Wapping has to prove he is as good on the AW as he is on turf and Echo Brava and Taqwaa have long absences to overcome. Cases can be made for Hairdryer, Nonios and Shamrokh, but ready preference is for WIMPOLE HALL, who has a good strike rate on the AW and can defy a weight rise under his competent claimer.
