Winner on second start but struggled upped in class subsequently. Heavy ground probably to blame for a below-par effort last time. First run on this surface but worth noting he is related to a couple of AW winners. Potentially well-handicapped.

Beat City Gent off level weights on penultimate start. That rival clearly improved for the fitting of blinkers next time, whilst this son of Sir Prancealot was disappointing four weeks ago.

Has developed a liking for this surface and the fitting of blinkers paid dividends last time. His main rivals went off too hard that day and a 10lb rise in the weights may overestimate the achievement.

Had two subsequent winners behind when picking up a Newbury maiden under this rider, but developed issues which have been corrected by fitting a visor. Back to 6f and the promise of a good pace can only help.

Looks held by City Gent on running here 18 days ago and has run poorly since. His attacking style may be better suited to this circuit and he faces less competition for the lead.

City Gent (15/8), The Mums (5/2), Count Otto (11/4), Helvetian (8/1), Montague (10/1)

Verdict

City Gent showed significant improvement last time in blinkers, however the race rather fell apart in front of him and a 10lb rise may have taken his measure. Count Otto had beaten City Gent on his penultimate start and is weighted to confirm the form if bouncing back from a poor run last time. Montague will ensure a good pace and that will suit The Mums who has improved for more patient tactics and the application of a visor. HELVETIAN has dropped more than a stone in the weights having contested hot company following his maiden success. His fourth in the Ripon Champion Two-Year-Olds Trophy has him dangerously well-handicapped at this level and he earns the vote as a result.
  1. Helvetian
  2. The Mums
  3. City Gent
