Shown a strong level of form in these type of races, and went down all guns blazing to Nestor Park at Ascot in November. Clearly something amiss in a very strong race latest, and that's a concern, but sets a solid benchmark if fully fit.
3m Loughanmore point-to-point winner (October 2017), and now represents a stable who have done well with their bumper runners this season. Beaten 3L on stable/rules debut at Chepstow in December, but improvement must be considered highly likely.

Milan gelding who cost a whopping £250,000 in April following his debut point-to-point success at Quakerstown (beat Stop The World by an emphatic 8L). Brother to 2m3f hurdle winner Get Back In Line, so clearly a fascinating rules debutante.

Filled the rear division positions on both starts so far (Lingfield and Warwick), and a similar scenario looks on the cards today in contesting an above average bumper for the track.
Cost his new owner (trainer) £135,000 in April 2017 after finishing 5L second to Stay Humble in a 3m Ballynoe point-to-point. This Beneficial gelding is a half-brother to Carnspindle, and should be monitored closely for market support on rules bow.

Fetched €66,000 as a three-year-old. His dam Misspublican was a bumper winner and a sister to the useful Publican. Far too green to do himself justice on debut at Ascot in November, but plenty to do to reverse placings with Portrush Ted.

Well beaten on debut at triple figure odds in a Southwell bumper in early November, and this contest looks far more competitive. No chance.

Second foal out of a selling hurdler (Firebird Rising), and well beaten on debut at Towcester in December, so couldn't possibly be expected to enter the equation in this race.

Her dam was a three time winner over hurdles, and she could come good with more time, but she looks well out of her depth in this race judged solely upon her bumper debut at Towcester in December. Hood applied.

Forecasts

Brewin'upastorm (6/4), Portrush Ted (5/2), Blue Flight (11/4), Locker Room Talk (8/1), Loud As Lions (25/1), Just Call Me Blue (50/1), The Toojumpa (66/1), Golden Esther (100/1), Stravinskys Flame (100/1)

Verdict

A strong bumper for the track, and most definitely the highlight of a largely low-key midweek card. Portrush Ted has very much been there and got the t-shirt in these type of races, and represents the clear form pick on the strength of his Ascot second to Nestor Park. However, he needs to bounce back from a puzzling effort latest, but the very fact that he figures amongst the line up suggests that he's fully over whatever ailment was prevalent. Brewin'upastorm will fill the column inches not least because of his hefty price tag, but also the manner of his Quakerstown debut success, whilst Blue Flight looks a likely improver for Nigel Twiston-Davies. However, LOCKER ROOM TALK rates as the selection for Rebecca Curtis and James Bowen. He has side-stepped a couple of recent options, including at Taunton last week (late non-runner), but everything looks primed for a strong showing here (track and ground fine) from this £135,000 purchase.
  1. Locker Room Talk
  2. Brewin'upastorm
  3. Portrush Ted
