Left alone from a very early stage when finishing alone at Perth in September but his two runs since then have left something to be desired. Gradually lost his place here last time out over 2m and now returns from a break in a far easier race (0-140 last time out); 3lb below his last winning mark.

His C&D and distance record reads 12 having won here last January off 101, then won off 110 before bumping into a well handicapped one (Las Tunas) when second here. Ran well after that and shaped as if he would be better for the run at Wetherby last time (0-140 grade); stable rather quiet though.

Good record around here over fences (21243) and he's actually slipped 2lb below his last winning mark here (112). Took advantage of a drop in the weights to score at Musselburgh in November (found plenty for pressure) but failed to back that up last time; remains quite well handicapped if bouncing back.

Found himself in resurgent if rather patchy form early last year landing two victories here over 2m in handicap hurdles (the second off a 3lb lower mark). He's not been seen over fences though since scoring over 2m here in April 2016 off 99; can jump poorly and ran poorly when last seen.

All his jumping wins have come with plenty of cut in the ground so conditions will be ideal and were when he won here at the turn of the year (stable in good form at the time). That was a weak affair however (0-100) and he has more to do here of 4lb higher mark; possibly vulnerable given his jumping.

3/34 over fences but has on occasions travelled far better in a race than his win record would tell you. All of his wins have come from off the pace but he's been ridden more forcefully of late and looks out of sorts (highly tried last time); way below his last winning mark but not one to rely on.

Sprang to life over hurdles this time last year when winning a lowly Newcastle handicap easily over 2m6f off a mark of 74. Given a hefty rise in the weights for that win he's been held over hurdles since; showed some aptitude for fencing in a low-key Hexham small event; now tries handicaps over fences.

Forecasts

Sky Full Of Stars (15/8), Casual Cavalier (9/2), Trust Thomas (11/2), Mcginty's Dream (11/2), Rosquero (9/1), Suprise Vendor (9/1), Mumgos Debut (18/1)

Verdict

Not an easy race to decipher and if Casual Cavalier came from a stable in better form then he would be interesting give the fact that he ran well in a far tougher grade last time when needing the run. Sky Full Of Stars has to be respected on his win here last time out but he’s not the most consistent and that was a fairly weak affair. TRUST THOMAS tends to go well around here and although he needs to bounce back from a poor run last time out he is still well handicapped if a return to his favourite course sparks him back to life. Surprise Vendor returns to fences and it remains to be seen how his jumping holds up while McGinty’s Dream can’t be written off from bottom weight having shown some ability over fences on his debut at Hexham and he should be able to cope with this mark and conditions.
