C&D winner who ran slightly below form at Newcastle last time but had been performing well in defeat before that and has won off a higher handicap mark than this in the past.
10-race maiden goes handicapping for the first time equipped with cheekpieces. Has been regressing lately and the draw has not been kind.
Has become expensive to follow, but has claims back up in trip and on a course where has gone well previously. On a handy mark and the jockey booking looks positive.
Landed a hat-trick over 5f during the summer and below his last winning mark. Debuts for new yard over a trip he should stay, but his two previous runs on his surface were not promising.
Remains well above his last winning mark and his last three runs have got progressively worse. Needs to bounce back and the market will be a likely indicator when that might be the case.
Sole win came over C&D 14 races ago and he arrives fitter for two runs on the Fibresand. Faced kickback last time and of interest here from a plum draw.
Useful front-runner on his day who landed three races over 7f in 2017. Below his last winning mark and drops in trip having gone off too hard last time. Nicely drawn to attack and could take some catching.
3-5 since joining this trainer and 4-7 around here. Came from last to first to land two races in 24 hours and she may have more to give. With Tavener likely to string this field out there is a danger she could find herself with too much to do.
In good form during the autumn and was probably unsuited by the surface last time. Poorly drawn and up in class, he has a tough task against others who look better treated.
Picked up a couple of races last summer but has been out of form since joining this yard. Has been placed on two previous starts here, but significant improvement is needed in what looks a decent race for the grade.
Back to back wins during the summer have done little for his handicap mark. Clearly likes the surface, but at his best in less competitive company these days.
Hasn't been given too much help by the handicapper recently and it's a slight concern his only AW win came at Southwell.
Forecasts
Pulsating (6/4), The Amber Fort (4/1), Mr Pocket (9/2), Tavener (17/2), Kingofmerrows (12/1), Big Lachie (16/1), Deeds Not Words (20/1), Foxy Boy (33/1), Captain Bob (33/1), Awesome Allan (33/1), Dream Ally (66/1), Bonjour Steve (66/1)
This is a strong race with many holding realistic claims. Pulsating arrives on the crest of a wave and has cruised to victory on her last two starts when appearing to have plenty to do. She is up in class tonight but has won in this grade previously. However, a furious pace is likely and she can ill afford to start as slowly as she has done lately. Mr Pocket has been costly to follow but there are grounds for optimism back up in trip and with more leniency shown by the handicapper. THE AMBER FORT is nicely drawn to get a good tow into the race from Tavener and his ability to stay an extra furlong could prove an asset in what promises to be a strongly run race. He looks reasonably treated and he seems to like it around here. Tavener is drawn to set out and attempt to make all. It seems only a matter of time before he exploits his current mark and it would be no surprise if this proved to be his day.
- The Amber Fort
- Tavener
- Mr Pocket
