Useful chaser on his day, and came good last spring when winning at Hereford and then a good third to Vaniteux at Ayr, but recent efforts suggest he's yet to find form and the handicapper isn't helping out either.
Needs the ground to keep drying, with best form coming on good. Might have been feeling the effects of a busy summer when well beaten at short odds when last seen, but another that the handicapper looks to have in his grip at present.
Ran a bit better than finishing position suggests at Aintree last time, fifth to Gas Line Boy over the National fences after making a lot of the running. Ground fine and drop back in trip a plus. Not out of it.
Came back off his summer break to go close at Chepstow in November but in truth a bit disappointing on latest start and needs to bounce back. Early days though, so that could happen, and should be involved.
Bold jumping front runner at his peak, and took this race two years ago with a gutsy display. Couple of efforts should have put him spot on fitness-wise and the others can't allow him too much rope on the front end.
On a good mark these days and looked to be rediscovering his form when a close third at Ludlow last time, although never looked like getting there. A few from the yard have disappointed this week, which is a concern, but holds a chance.
Best form on good to soft, so won't want any further rain, and although well beaten at Newbury latest the winner was well handicapped and won again. Holds no secrets from the handicapper though, and places may be the best he can hope for.
Forecasts
Big Jim (5/2), Swift Crusador (5/2), Azzuri (9/2), Vivaccio (11/2), Imjoeking (6/1), Red Riverman (13/2), Somchine (20/1)
A tough one to call, with all seven having plus and minus points. BIG JIM might be about ready to strike after a couple of pipe-openers and if he can recapture the form that saw him win in better grade than this back in 2016, he could be hard to peg back. Swift Crusador is one that should improve and if bouncing back from a moderate effort last time, looks the danger. Imjoeking is into the veteran stage now but retains enough enthusiasm for the job and may be best of the rest.
- Big Jim
- Swift Crusador
