Sepoy colt who cost 40,000 gns as a yearling, and stepped forward a notch or two on his AW debut at Kempton last month (1m) when finishing 4L third to Glencadam Master. Well worth a try at this trip on that showing.

Impeccably bred by New Approach out of the 1000 Guineas and Irish/Yorkshire Oaks winner Blue Bunting, but was easy to back on debut at Chelmsford (1m) in November and looked in need of the experience. Cheek-pieces applied now upped in trip.

Unraced first foal by Mastercraftsman out of the 1m to 1m2f winner Al Thumama. His trainer has been relatively quiet of late, but this race looks a reasonable starting point despite giving the benefit of racing experience to the other four runners.

€300,000 foal by Dawn Approach out of Simonetta with jockey bookings indicating that this is the stable's first string. Improved on his Kempton debut (green), when just under 2L fourth to Tansheet over 1m here in September. Step up in trip helpful.

Verdict

With previous course experience gathered, albeit over the straight mile, Tabernas forms the most logical starting point. He appears to be slowly learning his trade, and should find this step up in trip helpful, and is seemingly the clear pick of the Appleby/Godolphin pair. However, another horse who looks to be crying out for 1m2f at a stiff, galloping track is the James Tate trained BATTLE LINES. His improved Kempton effort (AW debut) probably came as a bit of a surprise given his odds of 25/1, but a similar showing on Tapeta will make him tough to beat.
  1. Battle Lines
  2. Tabernas
  3. Flag Festival
