Without a win for almost two years now and a slide in the weights coincided with a good reappearance run (2m4f, good to soft) at Newbury in November. Hadn't got going when unseating last time and claims from this mark back up in trip.

Yet to win over fences but has shaped encouragingly on more than one occasion. Pulled up in Listed company at Ascot last time, but if he could produce an effort like he did at that track in November, he would have claims. Handles testing ground.

Shotgun Paddyv8

Has been unable to win since landing Warwick's Classic Chase (3m5f, soft) in 2014, when rated 17lb higher. Has run well on several occasions while on the slide in the handicap. Pulled up last time and a bit to prove, but is on a good mark.

Won a couple of 3m handicap chases early last year, including from 1lb lower. Has proved that he stays 3m2f this season and now steps up again in trip. Looks likely to see it out, handles heavy and his chance is respected.

Was rewarded for some consistent efforts under rules when scoring at Sedgefield last time by an eased down 14L. That was a much improved effort, so a 14lb rise does not look beyond this unexposed performer and he is very interesting.

For the first time since his last win (Warwick, 3m, soft, February 2016) he races from a mark lower than that day. There has been no disgrace in either effort so far this term, he handles heavy going and he has claims.

Stays 3m2f, though yet to prove himself over further. In decent form lately with a good heavy ground effort at Uttoxeter in November and another here last time. From the same mark today he has to enter calculations.

Big Meadowp29
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-9| J: T E Whelan| T: N B King| OR:  117

Yet to add to his debut bumper win but has come close a few times, including on debut over fences in a Wetherby novices' handicap (3m, soft) last month. Same mark today, so has the ability, though lack of experience a concern.

Was in cracking form last winter when completing a hat-trick of heavy ground wins, including over 3m4f. Handicapper has been in control since and he has failed to complete in all his last three, but back on a good mark and revival not ruled out.

Bindon Mill30

Sole success came 12-months ago at Exeter (3m, soft) from 2lb lower. Has been unable to answer the handicapper's calls since then, but if he could return to something like his best the you couldn't rule him out now back on this mark.

Goes well here with three course wins to his name at around 3m1f and has also won on heavy. Raised 14lb for an easy success again here last time, though still 5lb 'wrong' in this significantly better race and will need to improve to figure.

Forecasts

Vinnie Lewis (7/2), Shanroe Santos (7/1), Shotgun Paddy (7/1), Leo Luna (8/1), Henri Parry Morgan (8/1), Bears Rails (8/1), Milansbar (8/1), Clondaw Cian (10/1), Bindon Mill (10/1), Frank N Fair (11/1), Coolking (12/1), Rathlin Rose (14/1), Big Meadow (25/1)

Verdict

Shotgun Paddy has slipped to a very attractive mark and if the Emma Lavelle stable had been in a bit better form then he would have been close to being selected here, though preference is for the unexposed VINNIE LEWIS, who is on the up and is taken to continue where he left off when winning easily at Sedgefield. Leo Luna and Coolking are both very interesting representatives for Gary Moore and the latter has plenty going for him except recent form, which has to be a concern. Frank N Fair loves it here but has some improving to do at this level, while Shanroe Santos and Henri Parri Morgan are both respected.
