A three-time winner around here from ten starts his form over C&D reads 122. Was beaten when an odds-on favourite in a 7f seller here on his return from a break last month but ran a little better last time without his usual hood back in a handicap over 7f.

Had started to look as though he was building up to something but his last effort was rather laboured and he never travelled with any fluency. Third on his only previous start here he ought to be competitive although he's not that well favoured at the weights back in a claimer.

From a stable that are in good form at the moment he ran one of his better races last time out to win in this grade at Wolverhampton over 7f. He's never been tried over a mile before and also steps onto Fibresand for the first time; has a good chance at the weights and the sire has a 15% strike-rate here.

Often travels well in his races but the finishing effort can leave a bit to be desired although the 1m3f trip here last time was always likely to prove too much. Blinkers are now tried for the first-time back over a more suitable trip back in claiming grade; last win came back in 2015.

Disappointing in three handicaps so far over 6f to a mile he drops into a claimer here trying the Fibresand for the first time. Given his sire Pivotal has a near 20% strike-rate on the surface he should be able to act on it but has a fair bit to do at the weights.

Has always run consistently on Fibresand with form figures over C&D that read 1133 although he did run a disappointing race after a break over 1m3f here last time. That leaves him with a bit to prove here despite his previous form here but could do better with that run under his belt.

Tatlisu (7/4), Pearl Nation (7/2), Maraakib (9/2), Athassel (11/2), Essential (13/2), Vivat Rex (20/1)

Verdict

A fairly awkward puzzle to sort out with Tatlisu in decent form at the moment as are his yard but he’s never run on the surface before (should act on it given his pedigree) or over this trip and this can be a fairly tough mile. Vivat Rex is another who handles this track but his run here last time was fairly flat and he comes here with a bit to prove. PEARL NATION has form that reads 122 at this trip and although he too comes here with a question mark against him he’s given a chance in this grade. It would be no surprise to see Athassel bounce back but he like all of these has something to prove also in a race where there are more questions than answers posed by the protagonists.
  1. Pearl Nation
  2. Tatlisu
  3. Athassel
