Lightly-raced but has won two of his three starts, a bumper here on soft ground two years ago and also when all out to win over 2m at Uttoxeter in novices' company last time. Handles heavy and handicap mark looks fair. Claims.

Another soft ground bumper winner who added a Ludlow maiden hurdle (2m, good) in April. Well held from 1lb higher on reappearance/handicap debut at Bangor in October, over a similar trip. Stable in good form and she can improve on that.

Loves the mud, with 4-6 wins being on heavy (all at 2m). 4lb higher than best winning mark going into this, but should be straighter for recent reappearance and has claims, although also stamina doubts to answer.

Has run well on heavy, though yet to win on ground worse than soft. Arrives on the back of a 6L win over 2m7f at Bangor last time. Has gone up 9lb for that, but 10lb claim very useful and couldn't rule out another success with yard in great form.

4/1
22-race maiden who yet to prove his stamina over this far. Ran well on heavy when a 5L third last week and 1lb drop won't harm. Cheek pieces now added (put up some of his better French form in them), so may get closer if he stays.

Forecasts

Du Soleil (7/4), War Creation (11/4), Dulce Panem (4/1), Cowslip (5/1), Catchin Time (14/1)

Verdict

A trappy contest in prospect where you wouldn't be surprised to see any of the quintet emerge on top. The suggestion is DU SOLEIL. Despite having to cart around a big weight, he could still be on a decent mark for this handicap debut, he handles heavy and he looks as though this trip will help him to find some improvement. War Creation has a handicap sighter under her belt and it would be a surprise if she couldn't improve on that today, while Cowslip will definitely see this out and looks a potential danger under her rider's 10lb claim. Catchin Time will relish conditions, though both he and Dulce Panem have stamina concerns to allay.
  1. Du Soleil
  2. Cowslip
  3. War Creation
