Will appreciate the drop back down in grade after finding it hard work from new mark at Carlisle last time, although was a little disappointing. Did it nicely at Wetherby the time before and if repeating that effort, every chance of bouncing back.
Would thrash this lot from this mark on best form, but that's looking less likely each time he runs and was well beaten off (over hurdles) last time. This is easier though, so not a forlorn hope, but many question marks now, not least this trip.
Put a disappointing Southwell effort behind him when coming good at Wetherby last time, rider performing heroics after a bad blunder two out almost cost him victory. Looks on the upgrade and every chance of the follow-up from just 5lb higher.
Found winning as easy as shelling peas in the summer but that run came to an abrupt halt over Hexham's 4 miles last time. Question mark over the suitability of this sharper track too and for now, handicapper may have him where he wants him.
Back-t-back wins in the spring on good ground would give him chances here if he could repeat that form, and wasn't totally disgraced on comeback run at Southwell despite pulling up ;ate. Should strip fitter for that and can't be discounted here.
Form figures don't look too bad but in truth, has been well beaten most recent starts and looks slow. Stayed on at one pace to claim a remote second latest and needs to find a bit of improvement to get involved for the top prizes here.
Had caught the eye a few times before coming good in style at Doncaster latest, pulling right away for an emphatic success. Up in both grade and the weights here so needs more, but now he's got the hang of winning, may well improve again.
Hard to win with at the best of times (for other yards) and recent efforts suggest he's rather put of love with the game at present. Hard to make a solid case for and easy enough to look elsewhere for the winner.
Low grade but stays well, and this sort of test should suit. Good jockey booking too (went close under him at Hexham in October) but bottom line is he's just 2 wins in 60 starts, so the places may be the best he can hope for.
Forecasts
Red Danaher (3/1), Golden Investment (10/3), Attention Please (4/1), Cottersrock (4/1), Captain Mowbray (10/1), More Madness (18/1), Hattons Hill (20/1), Ballythomas (28/1), Nicki's Nipper (100/1)
The two to concentrate on look to be the last time out winners ATTENTION PLEASE and Captain Mowbray, both of whom were victorious with plenty in hand when winning and now that Attention Please has got his head in front, he may well be able to follow up. He's frequently looked a winner in waiting so his Doncaster demolition job came as no surprise. Captain Mowbray, with Tony Kelly performing miracles in the saddle, came good at Wetherby but he won't be able to make those mistakes herre. Nevertheless, he looks the danger. Maybe old More Madness can roll back the years and grab third.
- Attention Please
- Captain Mowbray
- More Madness
