Into the veteran stage now, trip and ground both ideal and will enjoy racing in easier company after being outclassed at Carlisle last time. Handicapper giving him every chance now and may go better here.
Came back off a break to win at Sedgefield in October but hasn't followed that up and latest effort rather suggests he's gone off the boil a little. Step back up in trip may help but a bit to prove at present, and others are preferred.
Second to the useful Dolos at Chepstow in April is but a distant memory on recent efforts, although ran a bit better than finishing position suggested at Leicester last time (weakened late) and this test should suit. Unexposed and not discounted.
Has put in a couple of decent enough efforts over fences here this season (in the context of this race) to be considered, and looked ready for a try at this trip on his staying-on third last time. Shortlisted.
Still a maiden after 19 starts and despite the odd reasonable effort over this C&D, didn't show enough over hurdles last time to think that his duck will be broken here. Others make more appeal.
Recent third at Hexham from 22lb out of the handicap makes him look thrown in here if taken literally, but overall record of 0-20 immediately tempers any enthusiasm and that run looks a bit of a fluke. Chance on the book then, but not one to trust.
Into the veteran stage now, still a maiden after 23 starts and although there's been the odd false dawn to give hope he can finally win one, these conditions hardly ideal and it's easy enough to look elsewhere for the winner.
Just 1 win in 43 starts tells you all you need to know, hard to win with and although these conditions fine and he wasn't disgraced on recent comeback effort, looks unlikely to be doubling his tally here.
No win in 25 starts (although a handful of placings), not seen out since being pulled up at Hexham in the summer and races form out of the handicap here. Positives hard to find and easy to pass over.
Forecasts
Cup Of Ambition (3/1), Paddling (4/1), Mr Witmore (5/1), Betancourt (11/2), Under The Red Sky (8/1), Frankie Ballou (17/2), Amuse Me (11/1), Lost In Newyork (25/1), Reverse The Charge (33/1)
This is weak, and CUP OF AMBITION really wouldn't need to improve much on his Leicester run to hold a solid chance. With the likelihood of improvement to come, he'taken to come out on top in a modest event. Padding looks to be the one that will give him most to do after some solid enough efforts and may well improve a little for this step up in trip. Mr Witmore looks best of the rest, but wouldn't be one to trust.
- Cup Of Ambition
- Paddling
- Mr Witmore
