Came good around this time last year and was the wide margin winner of two Sedgefield hurdles. Supported on chase debut last month but the run may have been needed more than anticipated.
Point-to-point winner who kicked off with successive wins over hurdles, looking a useful prospect in the process. No show in three starts over fences but less highly tried here and tackles a more suitable trip. One to watch in the market.
Winner of three races over hurdles but would appear to need better ground than forecast. Soundly beaten on both starts over fences, but mark has dropped to an attractive level if handling conditions.
Justified market support last time, but had to survive mistakes at the last two fences to do so. Not as well-handicapped this time and looks vulnerable off this mark.
Winner of two Irish point-to-points, purchased by current connections for £10,000 earlier in the year. Has employed forcing tactics on each of his hurdling starts and steps up in class for his chasing debut for a top yard.
Has some form over hurdles but at a much lower level than is required here, and not the most auspicious of starts over fences so far either, finishing tailed off last time out.
Has won here and at Leicester over fences when conditions have been much quicker than is the case here. Handicapper has set him a stiff task and others make more appeal.
Chasing debutant who has dropped below his last winning hurdle's mark. Finished runner-up in a point-to-point so should be able to make the transition, but is said to want better ground than forecast.
Stable normally have a go at this contest and have had runners go well without winning. A change of tactics produced an improved display last time but this is a much hotter race.
Winner of the seller on this card five years ago who faces an impossible task from 42lb out of the weights.
Forecasts
Compadre (7/2), Running Wolf (5/1), Iskabeg Lane (11/2), Free Range (6/1), Kimberlite Candy (13/2), General Mahler (10/1), Justforjames (10/1), Soupy Soups (10/1), Princess Tara (10/1), The Society Man (66/1)
Most of these are said to want better ground than is forecast and are passed over as a result. General Mahler, Running Wolf and Soupy Soups fall into that category although the latter would be of interest if the going reports are favourable as the afternoon progresses. Free Range looks interesting now switched to fences, whilst Kimberlite Candy may offer more now handicapping but he has not looked a natural over these obstacles. Iskabeg Lane beat little here last time but is going the right way and will handle conditions. JUSTFORJAMES is well handicapped based on his hurdling form and he hit form at this stage last year. He will strip fitter for his recent comeback and can defy topweight.
- Justforjames
- Iskabeg Lane
