Seen to maximum effect and given a chance by the handicapper when winning at Wolverhampton earlier in the year but not won since. Has slipped back just below that last winning mark now but has run poorly of late (held-up last time out); Fibresand debut here.

Confirmed the promise of his debut over a mile here when scoring over C&D on his second start and ran well on his handicap debut on Tapeta after a break. Not been in the same form since but returned to this surface in a first-time visor he may be able to stage a revival.

Found his form earlier in the year when taking two handicaps the second over a furlong shorter on his first start at this track. Found his form again for his current yard when taking a 7f handicap off a 3lb lower mark at Kempton; poor here last time (may have needed the run).

In good form on this surface and is unbeaten over 6f here but his one defeat came over this trip when he looked unsuited by the trip. That was a while ago but his form over this trip reads 7737 and he may well be vulnerable here even on a surface he acts well on.

Capable sort who often likes to front run and has taken well to this surface (241) and appreciated the drop in class (0-60) to win his first race on Fibresand last time off a 7lb lower mark. Won that readily but a rise in the weights has forced him back up in grade and more to do now.

Appears to have taken well to this surface and in a first-time visor produced a career best when winning over C&D in November (made most) off a mark of 58. Made further progress last time returned here (made all again); needs to progress again but in fine form on this surface.

Forecasts

Clock Chimes (7/4), Queens Royale (3/1), Bold Spirit (7/2), Zaeem (6/1), First Excel (15/2), Count Montecristo (8/1), Bounty Pursuit (20/1)

Verdict

A decent opener to the card with a few in here that have clearly taken to the surface although they will have to find some more progress. Clock Chimes will appreciate a return to this surface after two good opening runs here and First Excel must be respected although on balance the 7f trip may test him too much. Bold Spirit and Zaeem both have more to do than the when winning their last starts although the latter is well handicapped on his win here a couple of years ago. QUEENS ROYALE is 2/2 over C&D and although this is a rise in grade she looks to be going the right way and if she does get to the front may well be hard to peg back.
  1. Queens Royale
  2. Bold Spirit
  3. Zaeem
