Goes really well on testing ground and has made steady improvement over the last two to three years, aside from a bad patch this time last year. Needs a career best to win from this mark first time out but not fully exposed just yet.
Has stepped up significantly on last season's form in three starts this autumn, making the frame at both Carlisle and here (2m4½f, heavy) in his last two starts. Slight drop in trip looks positive for handicap debut. Market check.
Won a maiden hurdle here (2m5½f, heavy) in March and not beaten far in a Paerth handicap (2m4f, heavy) from today's mark in September. Not as good in better company last twice, but of more interest with slight drop in grade.
Sole success came here in a novices' handicap chase (2m2f, heavy) in February from a mark of 106. Held by handicapper last twice over fences and still 2lb higher than his win, he reverts to hurdles today, where he is unexposed.
Won a couple of 1m5f Flat races here and also on soft at Doncaster (1m6½f). Not shown a huge amount in three maiden hurdles here, but probably capable of being more competitive now handicapping from a workable mark.
Placed four times at the track, three of them on heavy ground, at up to 2m4½f. Handicapper has been firmly in control since he entered this sphere. Has now slipped 19lb. Dropped in trip and market check prudent to gauge confidence in a revival.
It's around three years since he put together back-to-back wins in Irish chases and form largely poor for the past 12 months. Has been competitive from this sort of mark over fences and is unexposed over hurdles, so not ruled out. Acts on heavy.
Ended a wait over over three years when recording his second hurdles win on most recent start at Perth (2m4f, heavy) in September. 4lb rise fair and his record when freshened up is reasonable, so can't rule out follow-up but does need improvement.
7lb better off with Cruachan for a 10L defeat at Perth (2m4f, heavy) in September. Comfortably held over further at Kelso last time, though probably ran to ability and can't rule out with scope for improvement.
Sole success came on heavy in a Plumpton novices' handicap chase in January when with Gary Moore. Well beaten all starts since and plummeting in the weights, but still not easy to fancy until showing signs of revival.
Pulled up in four of his six starts and well beaten in the two that he has completed, including here over 2m4½f (soft) in October. Basement mark for this handicap debut and impossible to recommend on what we have seen.
CV reads 1-21, though on a positive note that win came over 2m4f (heavy) here in a maiden hurdle almost three years ago. Threw in a good run from a similar mark at Newcastle in March and capable of better than her reappearance now dropped in trip.
Forecasts
Trongate (9/2), Ceegem (5/1), Ardmillan (11/2), Vertigo (13/2), Craiganboy (8/1), Arctic Vodka (10/1), Cruachan (10/1), Braes Of Lochalsh (16/1), Rinnagree Rosie (16/1), Transient Bay (25/1), Ollisu Lad (33/1), Instingtive (33/1)
Modest stuff on offer here and Irish raider Ardmillan is interesting from this mark over hurdles, while Cruachan is respected after winning at Perth last time, for which Ceegem is 7lb better off for 10L now and could come into it given the scope he has for some improvement. Braes Of Lochalsh and Trongate both look worth checking out in the market and Arctic Vodka has claims. However, top weight TRANSIENT BAY represents a stable enjoying a good season and that has kept on improving him in recent years. This won't be easy first time out and needing another step up, but he relishes testing ground and may prove up to the task.
- Transient Bay
- Ardmillan
- Ceegem
