Fair bumper performer without winning in four starts, didn't appear to get home over 2m3½f at Bangor (soft) on hurdles bow this month, but jumped well enough. Down in trip now.

Buck Bravot24
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: T E Whelan| T: D A Rees
33/1
Modest in point-to-points and unable to muster any sort of challenge in pair of maiden hurdles here over 2m4f so far in testing ground. Hard to make case for despite drop in trip.

Fairmount20
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: Andrew Tinkler| T: M Keighley
7/2
Dam won over hurdles at this trip, though otherwise pedigree suggests that he will do better over further and suspicion enhanced with 22L defeat at Lingfield (soft) last month.
4
Horse silk
6/4
Presenting gelding unseated at the first over C&D early last month but shaped with some promise since when third at Chepstow (2m, heavy) and could have a say now if building on that effort.

I'm Always Trying24
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe
5/1
Well held in a bumper here last month on heavy going, may do better now going hurdling and would be some welcome cheer for trainer and jockey after Saturday's Cheltenham heartache. Watch betting.

Ilovemintsh1,t22
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-5| J: David Noonan| T: D Pipe
4/1
Bumper winner on debut at Bangor (soft) but generally disappointing in three subsequent outings before falling when held on stable / hurdles bow at Uttoxeter (2m, heavy) last month. Second Pipe runner here.

Forecasts

Holdbacktheriver (6/4), Fairmount (7/2), Ilovemints (4/1), I'm Always Trying (5/1), Atomic Rumble (11/2), Buck Bravo (33/1)

Verdict

HOLDBACKTHERIVER got rid of his companion very early on debut here but has since shown a good deal of promise at Chepstow on similarly tacky ground as he'll likely meet here. Give that he's handled conditions and shown that form, he makes appeal as the likeliest winner. The Pipe pair of I'm Always Trying and Ilovemints both have possibilities, with Tom Scudamore plumping for the former, while Fairmount should run well but may need a longer trip to be at his best.
  1. Holdbacktheriver
  2. I'm Always Trying
  3. Ilovemints
