Made a winning debut for this yard when sent off a short priced favourite for a novice chase at Southwell over minimum trip last month. Good chance of winning handicap debut when falling since at Ludlow and has sound claims in this match.

Formerly trained in Ireland by Ted Walsh, placing five times from ten starts over fences. Not the most reliable however and, returning from 638 days off, may be edged out here when push comes to shove despite receiving weight.

Forecasts

Chirico Vallis (1/3), Champagne James (9/4)

Verdict

CHIRICO VALLIS was running a good race at Ludlow last month on handicap bow when coming to grief four out and would likely have gone very close to doubling his tally Neil Mulholland bar that departure. He goes up in trip slightly now and looks to hold the better claim here, with fitness on his side. Champagne James was never the most consistent during his career in Ireland (2-18 overall) and he may be found wanting in the closing stages now return from a long absence against a race-fit rival.
  1. Chirico Vallis
  2. Champagne James
