Put together back-to-back chase wins over this sort of trip last year, but has been at the mercy of the handicapper ever since. Has claims based on his Stratford run from 7lb higher in July, but unable to show enough from 2lb higher when last seen.
So far unable to build on the promise of his rules debut when runner-up in a Wincanton bumper in April 2016. 40-1 and entitled to need the run on chase debut at Uttoxeter last time. Could come on for that, but a bit to prove now on handicap intro.
Began well over fences last year, winning a couple, including this race from just 2lb lower. Handicapper has had her measure since, but only just on a couple of occasions, one of them last time at Musselburgh. Again capable of going very close.
A drop in his ratings coincided with a first chase success at Bangor last time out (2m1½f, good), when he scored readily by 5L. Back up 6lb and, although beaten from this sort of mark before, he could do much better with that success under his belt.
Recorded his second chase success of 2017 at Southwell (1m7½f, good) two starts ago, having dropped to a mark of 97, but beaten 11L back up to today's mark at Bangor last time. Frame claims again, but not easy to envisage him winning.
All four chase wins came on good ground at this trip in 2015. On long losing run since, but a little hope that he could end that given his run at Ludlow last time in stronger race. Not easy to trust, though nor is he easy to rule out from 5lb lower.
Although well beaten on his chase debut at Warwick, the winner has scored again since and this gelding was 9L clear of the remainder, so there is cause for some optimism ahead of this reappearance, especially with yard among winners. Market check.
Nine-race maiden whose best effort to date was when runner-up at Bangor last time (2m1½f, good) from today's mark. Couldn't rule out improvement given his age and stable also in good form, so has to enter calculations.
One of few on this field with relatively recent winning form, having taken a Newton Abbot handicap chase (2m½f, good to firm) in June. Back in better form again here last time from today's mark, though concern that he really wants faster ground.
Forecasts
Alpine Secret (5/2), Minella For Me (3/1), Diamond Rock (10/3), Thankyou Very Much (5/1), Vocaliser (16/1), No No Cardinal (16/1), Canicallyouback (20/1), Deise Vu (20/1), Walden Prince (25/1)
Modest fayre here and THANKYOU VERY MUCH is taken to repeat her win of last year from just 2lb higher, after a narrow defeat last time out from today's mark. Diamond Rock comes into this on the back of a win and despite his record from similar marks before, he may be capable of better now. Deise Vu has each-way claims along with Walden Prince, while potential improvers include Vocaliser, Alpine Secret and Minella For Me.
- Thankyou Very Much
- Vocaliser
- Alpine Secret
