Has some quality form to his name, such as his win over the useful A Genie In Abottle at Naas in January, but is susceptible to throwing a stinker in from time to time, and this trip very much on the short side.

Had some solid form for David Dennis and this sort of trip on soft ground suits him well. Has settled into new yard without any fuss and showed great resolution to battle to victory at Cork last time. 7lb higher here but chances of following up.

Now 4lb lower than when beating Road To Respect at Naas in January but it's been a tale of woe since, hence this good-looking mark, and he never really got in the hunt at Cheltenham last time. Others make more appeal today.

Kilcarry Bridget13

Into the veteran stage but still has plenty of enthusiasm for the game, as he showed when taking a Grade 3 chase at Punchestown in September. Takes a big drop back in trip here though, and might find things happening a bit too quickly.

Not seen out since June but was in good form at the time, winning a Roscommon chase with a bit in hand. That was over 3m 1f though, so another taking a huge drop back in trip here. May need this after the break too.

Made favourite for the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and was just starting to get into it when unseating. Effective at this trip but better at further, and likely to need if after a break as well.

Age: 9|  Weight: 10-8| J: L P Dempsey| T: A Leahy| OR:  129| CD

Been on the go for much of the year but in truth, it's been a steady decline and he's now some 14lb lower than at the start of the year. Ground to make up on Doctor Phoenix on their Cork run last time out and hard to see how he turns that around.
9
Horse silk
Elusive Ivy29
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: R M Power| T: G P Cromwell| OR:  126| D

Still fairly unexposed over fences and didn't shape at all badly coming back off a break at Down Royal last month. Goes on most ground and trip fine, so chances if building on that.
10
Horse silk
Bel Ami De Sivola20
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-4| J: Donagh Meyler| T: N Meade| OR:  125| C| D
8/1
Didn't see which way Footpad went at Navan last time but this does look a little easier, still unexposed over fences and if finding his useful hurdles form (was in great form this time last year) isn't out of this.
11
Horse silk
Caolaneoint23
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-2| J: Robbie Colgan| T: S Nolan| OR:  123| CD
33/1
Winner at Punchestown in the summer (form just 2lb lower) but it's all unravelled since then, and he showed very little on his first run back from a break at Thurles last month. Hard to make a solid case for.

Horse silk
Black Zero20
Age: 9|  Weight: 9-13| J: M A Enright| T: M J McDonagh| OR:  120| D
25/1
Good effort to run Presenting Mahler to half a length at Galway in October and only 3lb higher here, but there are simply too many moderate efforts between the good ones to make him a solid proposition. May ideally want a bit further too.
13
Horse silk
De Name Escapes Meh,t114
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-13| J: J M Moore| T: N Meade| OR:  120| C| D
13/2
Has been pretty highly tried over the past 12 months, running with credit at Thurles and Punchestown on his last two starts but they have been over further than today, and on that alone, looks vulnerable here.
14
Horse silk
Bobbie's Diamondt29
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-11| J: Phillip Enright| T: A J Martin| OR:  118
14/1
Has some useful form over hurdles but more recent chase starts have been littered with mistakes, and he only stayed on at one ace to finish a remote fifth last time. May want further as well, and others make more appeal.
15
Horse silk
La Bella Vida17
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-11| J: A W Short(7)| T: Miss E Doyle| OR:  118| BF| D
11/1
Early casualty over this C&D last time out (was made favourite) but had earlier won a mares beginners chase at Thurles nicely. This small drop back in trip won't pose a problem, so if avoiding errors, looks on the upgrade and can go well.
16
Horse silk
De Bennot13
Age: 12|  Weight: 9-9| J: C A Landers(7)| T: J Grace| OR:  117| C
14/1
Well into the veteran stage but ran as well as he has for some time when just touched off by Doctor Phoenix at Cork last time. More rain the better for him, and despite the advancing years, could go well at a price here.

Forecasts

Anibale Fly (6/1), Gwencily Berbas (6/1), Doctor Phoenix (13/2), De Name Escapes Me (13/2), Bel Ami De Sivola (8/1), Some Plan (10/1), La Bella Vida (11/1), De Benno (14/1), Bobbie's Diamond (14/1), Squouateur (16/1), Elusive Ivy (16/1), Nearly Nama'd (20/1), Kilcarry Bridge (20/1), Black Zero (25/1), Caolaneoin (33/1)

Verdict

Not easy to solve. This trip looks on the short side for a few of them though, so with the promise of more to come, BEL AMI DE SIVOLA is given the vote. There's nothing of the quality of Footpad to contend with here and in calmer waters, can take this. De Benno might be getting his pension soon but the fire still burns and he might be able to turn recent form with Doctor Phoenix, and take home a prize. Elusive Ivy is another to consider.
  1. Bel Ami De Sivola
  2. De Benno
  3. Doctor Phoenix
