Useful hurdler who has carried over the form that he showed in that sphere to this over fences winning on his debut (beat three rivals). Went the wrong way next time out though when well beaten in tough conditions off 138 in an Ayr handicap; carries a penalty here.
Comes from a point-to-point background and every reason to believe that he may well be better over fences than he was over hurdles although he was consistent in that sphere. Made an encouraging start over fences at Aintree and may be happier over this 2m4f trip.
Another one with a pointing background he showed some useful form over hurdles despite remaining a maiden. Ran below that level on his chasing debut (quite free) and may benefit from a try over 2m and an easier test than he will face here.
A course winner over hurdles (2m5f) on his debut in that sphere he showed improved form without winning on one subsequent start before disappointing on his final outing. Makes his chasing debut now and should be able to make his mark in this if ready to go after a break.
Still a maiden under Rules having a record of 0/8 overall but appeared to make a little progress last time out on a belated handicap hurdle debut. Now back from a break and switched to fences although this looks a tough task at the weights.
From a stable in good form he's already a winner of a point-to-point in Ireland and connections quickly make the switch to fences after one hurdles run. Shaped as though he needed the run but open to progress on chasing debut.
The only mare in the field she's now blinkered for her second start over fences under Rules. Showed very little on her debut in this sphere (took keen hold) and faces a very stiff task at the weights.
Forecasts
Kayf Adventure (11/10), Ballyarthur (4/1), Hogan's Height (13/2), Perfect Pirate (8/1), Wandrin Star (10/1), Pine Warbler (10/1), Mirs Choice (100/1)
The main two in this judging by the market looks to be Kayf Adventure and Ballyarthur with both having shown aptitude for fences so far although the former needs to bounce back from a poor effort last time. The latter may well improve on his first outing over the larger obstacles but a chance is taken here with WANDRIN STAR from the Kim Bailey yard. The trainer is in good form at the moment and it may be significant that they switch this one to fences very quickly. Perfect Pirate has already won over hurdles here so we know the course suits and he along with Hogan’s Height give this race some depth.
- Wandrin Star
- Ballyarthur
- Kayf Adventure
