Well beaten by Midnight Gypsy over this distance last time. On a 20 month/19-race losing streak and hard to see that being reversed over a trip short of her best.

Signs of promise as a novice last term. Having looked one paced over longer distances, this drop in trip may not be what is needed.

Won an amateurs race off this mark last season but failed to progress in his next two starts. Booking of a top conditional looks a sign of intent and there are a few in here who could provide the pace he needs.

Has not looked that straightforward and arrives on the back of a dismal effort last time. Hard to fancy in his current mood.

In good form at Worcester this summer during which he exploited an attractive mark to quicken off a slow pace in August. Runner-up next time to a horse who subsequently defied a 7lb penalty and of obvious interest here.

Midnight Gypsyh13
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: Alexander Thorne(7)| T: W S Kittow| OR:  102| CD

Took her latest race apart with a good leap two out before idling on the run-in. Would have gone into many notebooks as one to complete a hat-trick, but few would have anticipated a 13lb rise in the weights.

In good form around here at the turn of the year on heavy ground. Jumping has been a problem lately and that, with the forecast quick conditions, makes him hard to recommend.

Well beaten on last two starts and handicap mark would appear to have much further to fall before he gets competitive.

The form of this summer's success at Stratford amounted to little and his record of 2-30 further limits his appeal.

Age: 4|  Weight: 11-6| J: Lucy Gardner(3)| T: Mrs S Gardner| OR:  99

Not a bad effort when third to Resolution Bay in April but has not built on that since. Makes handicap debut and opening mark does not appear that generous.

Comber Millh20
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-1| J: Alex Edwards(5)| T: A Ralph| OR:  94

Has made progress since joining this yard and the fitting of a hood has been the key. Not beaten far last time and the winner has scored since.

Down to the mark which brought a Catterick success under this rider last winter. Having scored on his debut he is 1-30 since and he may need slower conditions than are forecast.

The fitting of a tongue-tie and the step up to 3m inspired an improved performance a month ago. Will probably find things happening too quickly down 5f in distance and on a track this sharp.

John Biscuit55
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-0| J: H Cobden| T: Miss J S Davis| OR:  79

Scored on debut in 2010, again in 2012 and more recently in 2016. Showed he can bounce back from a poor run on that occasion, but his unpredictability and latest effort make him difficult to recommend.

Had proved modest under both codes until in form yard sparked an improved effort on penultimate start. Soft ground may have been a factor last time when he also took a strong hold. Well supported on those occasions and he has a modest race in him.

Forecasts

Midnight Gypsy (3/1), State The Obvious (9/2), Lady Of Longstone (6/1), Comber Mill (8/1), Thomas Blossom (12/1), Cougar Kid (14/1), Schnabel (14/1), Silva Samourai (14/1), Sidsteel (14/1), Knight's Parade (16/1), Hoola Hula (16/1), Mr Mafia (20/1), John Biscuit (25/1), Way Of The World (25/1), Marlais (33/1)

Verdict

Midnight Gypsy won with a lot of authority last time but did not beat much and a 13lb rise makes the hat-trick far from a foregone conclusion. Silva Samourai has come in for solid support on both starts for his in form yard and has each-way value off his basement mark. Comber Mill is going the right way and his latest career best effort puts him up for consideration. STATE THE OBVIOUS opened his account at Worcester and then found a well-handicapped rival too strong there last time. If proving as good around here, then this unexposed type could prove to be on the right side of the assessor.
  1. State The Obvious
  2. Midnight Gypsy
  3. Silva Samourai
