Novice hurdle winner here on good ground over 2m5f in April, sent off favourite, but has disappointed in pair of handicaps either side of summer recess. Perhaps needed reappearance, and up in trip to 3m for first time now.

Beaten at short odds in novice hurdles at Exeter (2m2½f, good) and Stratford (2m6f, good) recently, albeit narrowly both times. As such, opening handicap mark is not a gimme and potentially has to improve again.

Most recent win came at Bangor in December 2015 over this sort of trip off a mark of 122. Generally held form last season without winning, returns from a year off now and fairly weighted if ready to roll.

9L winner of a maiden hurdle at Hexham in May over just shy of this trip on second rules start, has joined a very capable trainer since and could be open to making a bold bid on handicap debut with yard in decent form.

A 127-rated chaser when last spotted, he has one win from five in that sphere, at Stratford in July 2016 being pulled up. Off since, he could be well handicapped if able to replicate his novice hurdling form on return to action. Watch betting.

Relatively consistent, if not always the most straightforward, he has three wins from 17 starts over timber, latest over this trip at Taunton in April off a mark of 115. Close to that again now and has run well enough in three starts this term.

Veteran, but not the force of old and hasn't done all that much racing over hurdles in the past 18 months or so. Freshened up since contesting stayers events on the Flat at Pontefract in June, but probably safest to look elsewhere.

Multi-purpose performer, built on promising Plumpton run to score last time out at Huntingdon (3m1f, good), narrowly, off a mark of 105, beating Kings Temptation by ¾L. In good heart and can confirm placings.

Six-race maiden over hurdles, improved at Huntingdon last time for step up to this sort of staying trip and got within ¾L of Night Generation at the winning line. Open to doing better over the trip but suspicion that form will hold up.

Forecasts

Right Of Reply (11/4), Good Man Pat (7/2), Muthabir (5/1), Le Dauphin (15/2), Kings Temptation (15/2), Night Generation (10/1), Teak (16/1), Royalraise (16/1), Volcanic (20/1)

Verdict

An easy winner of a maiden hurdle at Hexham in May, RIGHT OF REPLY was then sent to Dan Skelton and could be up to a winning start in handicaps of what doesn't seem a harsh mark. The yard are in excellent form and the Skelton team are certain to have him ready to show his best here. Good Man Pat cost connections £70,000 and while he's been beaten at short odds twice already over timber, he's not one to draw a line through this afternoon. Muthabir is dropping to a winnable mark and, along with Volcanic, could be dangerous. Night Generation and Kings Temptation, first and second at Huntingdon last time out, are also worthy of a second look in open heat.
